Job Purpose:
The Insurance Information Coordinator supports the Collections Department by gathering and disseminating information from hospitals and insurance companies pertaining to referred claims. The ideal candidate has medical insurance, call center, and/or customer service experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide daily/weekly updates to management
- Verify members’ benefits, effective dates, claim, and appeal information with insurance companies
- Use Microsoft Outlook to set follow-up reminders
- Research claims and insurance information through New York State’s Eagle system
- Use, protect and disclose patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards
- Organize time frames in which claims must be appealed
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Reliable, detail-oriented, resourceful, and analytical
- Excellent customer service skills
- Experience with EAGLE, NAVI-Net, Epic, and I-SUITE a plus
- Strong organization and time-management skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Be proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- Have solid data entry skills and the ability to learn proprietary databases
- Must be comfortable speaking with external contacts, including insurance company representatives
- Solid investigative skills and a persistent demeanor
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Working Conditions:
- Mental Demands: The employee must be able to follow directions, collaborate with others, and handle stress.
- Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to move around the work area; Sit; perform manual tasks; operate tools and other office equipment such as computer, computer peripherals and telephones; extend arms; kneel; talk and hear.
- Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
