Job Description
The Human Resources Generalist reports to and partners closely with the VP of Human Resources to implement a best-in-class, customer-centric, HR function that will position PPAZ as a designated employer. This position will serve as a role model in maintaining and enhancing a positive and inclusive workplace environment and shaping the agency’s culture to foster self-reliant, insightful, engaged employees. Specifically, the HR Generalist is responsible for developing and maintaining structural components of the department to ensure the retention, engagement, and satisfaction of all PPAZ team members. At the forefront of this position’s duties include a lens of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI). This position will play a key role in shaping, building, and maintaining the HR Function.

Who We Are:

  • Planned Parenthood Arizona services include an emphasis on family planning and reproductive health care, including the provision of birth control and comprehensive contraceptive counseling, testing and treatment of sexually transmitted infections, pregnancy testing, counseling and referral, HIV testing, annual exams, abortion care and more. In addition, PPAZ focuses on providing medically accurate sexuality education and training services throughout the state.

The Opportunity:

  • Employee Relations
  • Tracks and monitors employee complaints to ensure adequate documentation, partnership, and collaboration with EDI, employee follow up, and resolution of employee concerns. Will be responsible for assisting in the prevention and resolution of employee concerns, as well as regular tracking and reporting.

  • In collaboration with the VP of HR, EOC (Equity & Organizational Culture, and key stakeholders, this position will assist in leading the redesign and continuous improvement of key HR functions to include talent management, onboarding, retention, compensation and benefits, HRIS, performance management, and employee engagement.
  • In collaboration with the HR Coordinator, assists where necessary in the triage of incoming emails and communication that is sent to the HR Distribution Group addressing day-to-day human resources questions and requests for information in a timely manner (within 24-hours or sooner if possible.)
  • Provides customer-centric service to PPAZ team members, interns, contractors, vendors, and external contacts in alignment with Planned Parenthood’s in This Together Values and service standards.
  • In partnership with key stakeholders and EDI, create, administer, monitor, and implement employee engagement program(s) with EDI in mind that focuses on staff retention, recognition, and satisfaction:
  • Recruiting/Hiring/Onboarding:
  • Works and builds trust across cultural differences.
  • The HR Generalist is responsible for recruiting, prescreening and full cycle recruiting for all positions. This includes the sourcing of candidates. Job postings, coordination of the recruitment process, updating job descriptions, managing the applicant tracking system, screening, coordinating interviews and participating in interviews. In collaboration with the VP of HR, EOC, and key stakeholders, this position will lead the continuous improvement of the recruiting and selection process with an EDI lens to match PPAZ’s values and mission impact.
  • Monitor and support effective employee relations activity and provide coaching to managers on effective practices. Serves as a secondary internal consultant to manage as advisor/mediator in employee situations as necessary, per the VP of HR.
  • Leave Management
  • Will partner with VP of HR to develop and implement an effective, collaborative, performance management system that is practical to administer, track, allows for two-way feedback, is tied to employee development and succession planning.
  • HR Dashboard Reporting

  • Is the primary contact for leave management, including FMLA, Paid Parental Leave and non FMLA Leave.
  • HRIS Implementation
  • Auditing & Compliance, including accreditation

Education Requirements:

  • SPHR certification a plus.
  • Associate degree or its equivalent with 5+ years of strong HR Generalist and administrative experience required. Prefer 8+ years.
  • Experience in ADP and Workday highly desirable. Hands-on experience with payroll processing.
  • Bachelor Degree preferred.
  • Experience implementing a new HRIS system.
  • Demonstrates expertise in a variety of HR areas, including recruiting, hiring, onboarding, benefits, employment law, policy development, compensation, benefits, employee relations, leave management, unemployment, and worker’s compensation.
