Description of Job


Our team of Human Resources professionals is seeking applicants who excel at customer service and follow through, who care about people and know that details matter, and who are ready to contribute to a team seeking continuous improvement.


Western Colorado University invites applications for the full-time position of Human Resources Generalist. The position reports to the Human Resources Director, and has responsibilities related to recruiting, on-boarding new employees, unemployment, workers’ compensation, and employee relations. This position is also designed to support HR succession planning by developing Human resources talent. This position is local, on our University campus in Gunnison, Colorado.


Responsibilities


  • Provides HR Information System support. This position will learn the back-end of one or more functional areas in Workday (HRIS system), to support the business process and to support the team when changes to the functional area in the system are needed.
  • Creates communications, organizes, and, working with the HR Specialist, coordinates benefitted employee onboarding. Includes ensuring I-9 forms are complete, compliant, and verified. Reviews background checks and refers questionable results to HR Director. Communicates with new employees on various topics facilitating excellent new employee relations and compliance with various regulations.
  • Supports the HR Director on special projects, such as employee events, communication campaigns, short-term employee housing, training, or employee safety.
  • Assists our HR Specialists with administering other types or employment services, developing skills in multiple human resources areas.
  • Works to answer general human resources questions for employees while providing excellent customer service.
  • Handles various recruiting activities. May create positions in HRIS system, post approved job announcements, place advertisements, monitor recruitments, assist search committees, and maintain postings/closures. Helps develop HR business processes for prospect management and works with search committee chairs, HR Director, EOO, and others to refine process. Assists with offer letters.
  • Works with the HR Assistant to ensure that employee personnel documents are in order, regular file management is complete, and records are well organized. Scanning or copying, collating, and filing paper documents as needed. Other related duties assigned.
  • Receives workers’ compensation claims, electronically files with insurance company, follows up on claims accident analysis, responds to both insurance company and employee requests for information. Maintains related records.
  • Assists with employee “off-boarding”. Mails life insurance continuation and unemployment information notices to exiting employees. Responds to unemployment claims in a thorough and timely fashion.


Minimum


Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights


Bachelor’s Degree. Must be willing to complete training for our HR information system and for HR professional development. The successful candidate will possess strong attention to detail, excellent customer service skills, MS Office Suite skills, database skills, and effective communication skills. Requires at least one year of work experience in a field that utilizes a similar level of required skills, abilities, and knowledge.


Preferred


Three to five years of work experience in an administrative customer service profession. Knowledge of and experience working in Workday HRIS.

Supplemental Information


Compensation: Annual base salary range is $45,000 - $50,000. This is an FLSA exempt position . Western offers an excellent benefits package including shared premiums for a comprehensive health insurance plan, dental insurance, retirement plan, life insurance, and other insurance options. After one year of employment, Western provides free tuition for dependents enrolled full-time in undergraduate programs for up to four years.
