Job Description

Grand + Benedicts, Inc., a leading Store Fixture and Display company headquartered in Portland, OR is currently accepting resumes for a Human Resources Generalist to join our Portland team.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES: The Human Resources Generalist performs the following:

1. Maintains existing company personnel policies ensuring management and employees are informed. Updates and writes new personnel policy as necessary.

2. Administers company HRIS system ensuring all employee data is current and secure.

3. Manages Worker’s Compensation program including filing claims, light duty, return to work, and case management.

4. Administers all aspects of various insurance benefits offered to G+B employees including facilitating the annual renewal process with benefits brokers, recommending plan design changes, employee education and enrollment, coverage terminations and administering COBRA as necessary.

5. Administers all aspects of 401k/profit sharing plan, including managing employee access online, distributing profit sharing contribution statements, coordinating educational employee meetings, and monitoring changes in ERISA rules and regulations that may impact our plan(s).

6. Creates and/or revises job descriptions with managers.

7. Coordinates all aspects of the recruiting and hiring process including managing job postings, networking with industry recruiters, initial applicant screening, facilitating interviews, negotiating job offers and conducting all pre-hire contingencies.

8. Manages compensation strategy for entire company. Researches and recommends market-based adjustments.

9. Facilitates new employee onboarding including collecting required documentation (I-9, W4, etc.) and creating training plans with input from hiring managers.

10. Communicates with employees directly and coaches managers on various leave of absences details. Requests, reviews and stores all documentation related to leaves of absences.

11. Maintains internal documentation of all employee conversations that are coaching and/or disciplinary in nature.

12. Evaluates, investigates, and makes recommendations regarding issues as they arise.

13. Coaches managers on appropriate discipline measures to coincide with the Employee Manual. Monitors the use of the discipline procedure for compliance and documentation.

14. Provides training and guidance to management personnel, including helping them develop training materials or locate training resources for their employees.

15. Facilitates the annual performance review process.

16. Ensures that required communications are distributed to all employees as required.

17. Coordinates employee Wellness Programs and related benefits and activities.

18. Keeps up to date on Federal and State laws and regulations that impact the relationship between G+B and its employees. Communicates changes to management and, when appropriate, to employees.

19. Participates in and may lead monthly safety meetings. Coordinates quarterly inspection check lists for each G+B location.

20. Completes OSHA logs annually and distributes to various company locations.

21. Works with warehouse managers to coordinate safety training of new hires (forklift certification, shop safety, etc.)

22. Keeps up to date on Federal, State and local safety laws and regulations. Stays current on OSHA.

23. Provides appropriate employee information to unemployment agencies. Completes various State and Federal agency surveys.

24. Participates in monthly Leadership Team Meetings.

25. Participates in meetings to help resolve department as well as company-wide issues; may direct such meetings.

26. Participates in continuing education to improve existing skills and develop new skills that will enable more effective leadership.


EDUCATION / PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: The Human Resources Generalist should possess the following minimum skills and/or education:

1. Bachelor’s degree in HR or equivalent in a related field required.

2. 5 years of Human Resources experience required. PHR/SPHR certification preferred.

3. In depth knowledge of local and state labor laws required.

4. Proficient in Microsoft Office suite. HRIS administration experience preferred.

5. Effectively work well independently as well as within a team.

6. Excellent written and verbal communications skills and demonstrated ability to interact effectively with management, customers and team members.

7. Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.

8. Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks with minimal direction.
