The British Government’s Embassy in Washington has an exciting opportunity for a driven and detail oriented person to join the Regional Corporate Services Hub as part of the Pay & Benefits Team.
In this role you would be working in a diverse international environment to supporting country based staff employed in the British Government’s network of Embassies and Consulates across the entire Americas region.
The ideal candidate will be a team player, have strong attention to detail and deadline focused. Full training will be given. The Pay & Benefits officer supports the processing of payroll, utilising payroll software, and reports to the Pay & Benefits Manager.

Roles and responsibilities
- Complete some first-level calculations on payroll adjustments or arrears, with support from the Pay & Benefits Manager.
- Suggest and implement process efficiencies.
- Work with individual employees to resolve issues with their timecards, pay statements or questions around processing time-off requests
- Check time and attendance entries for non-exempt staff prior to the processing of payroll
- Act as part of the team responsible for the processing of payroll for Country Based Staff (hired on local terms and conditions) for the US and Canada, overseen by the Pay & Benefits Manager
- Support the Pay & Benefits manager with payroll reporting.
- Inputting data into ADP in time for payroll cut-off, and ensuring data entered is accurate, including uploading information relating to bonuses and pay-uplifts.
- Other duties as required.
Under US State Department requirements, the UK Government in the US may only employ, as non-diplomatic staff, persons who are US citizens, US Permanent Residents or A visa holders with EAD cards*. Essential qualifications, skills and experience
- Comfortable with Microsoft Office (especially excel), and basic calculations.
- Experience working as part of a team and/or delivering a service and/or working to deadlines.

- Experience in HR or Payroll
- Experience working with ADP

Additional information
Normally 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday. Willing to discuss a part-time schedule / flexible schedule / job share with prospective candidates, please indicate this in your application. The Regional Corporate Services Hub has currently adopted a hybrid working model which allows staff to typically work from home 40-60% of the week (subject to change & at the discretion of the line manager)
