Job Description
Job Summary: The Benefits Manager is responsible for the operations and delivery of the benefit programs within Erlanger Health System. Including but not limited to group insurance, retirement plans, leaves of absence and related programs. He/she manages the daily processes of the various benefit programs. Such as overseeing billings, file transmissions to third-party administrators, regular reconciliations and compliance. The Benefits Manager supervises internal customer service and plays a key role is such activities as annual open enrollment and vendor relationships. He/she regularly evaluates processes and procedures and ensures the effective operation of the benefits function through process improvement, coordination, and collaboration. The Benefit Manager provides supervision and evaluation of staff including directing operational activities. He/she will coach and mentor staff to help develop the skills necessary to execute effective and efficient processes. The Benefits Manager assists the Benefits Director and system leadership in the development and strategic management of the benefit programs. A key responsibility is to help ensure and design programs meeting budgetary parameters, a market competitive position as well as delivering high service levels. The incumbent will help research, analyze and make recommendation regarding emerging benefits practices. He/she will ensure compliance with all federal, state and regulatory standards & laws governing the benefit programs. The Benefits Manager works in partnership with leadership, management, staff and external vendors to ensure programs are aligned with EHS's total compensation philosophy and strategic initiatives. Education: Required: Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources Management or a related field Preferred: Master's Degree; Benefits/Human Resources Certification Preferred Experience: Required: Minimum 5 years of management experience in a benefits environment. Demonstrated experience in overseeing benefit programs from plan design and implementation to the ongoing maintenance of plans. Strong analytical skills with financial data. Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in effectively managing vendor relations. Significant experience managing the operation of health and welfare insurance programs. Experience managing FMLA, leaves of absence programs, and PTO and STD Bank programs. Strong experience administering retirement programs such as 403(b), 401(a), 457, and DB plans. Knowledge and experience of ACA reporting and compliance. Exceptional interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with diverse levels of management and personnel. Ability to effectively manage time, balance challenging multiple tasks, work within stringent time frames and execute projects to completion. Excellent organizational and communication skills including effective writing capability. Strong analytical experience in making plan decisions including delivering best practices. Excellent presentation and instructional skills Ability to plan and execute process improvement initiatives which are measurable and demonstrate improvement. Demonstrated working knowledge of MSWord, Excel and PowerPoint. Preferred: Healthcare experience. Working knowledge of PeopleSoft software.
