Job Description

Duties

  • Work collaboratively with their assigned provider, leveraging team based care to realize efficiencies.
  • Schedule appointments through the Composite Health Care System (CHCS) computer system for eligible beneficiaries.
  • Interviews patient who request initial treatment or unscheduled examinations and obtains additional information from medical records regarding the type of medical problem and treatments received.
  • Provide patient care for their beneficiaries in their MHP team utilizing evidenced-based clinical practice guidelines and actively engages patients in their health care.
  • Prepare, release and enter MHP provider schedules into CHCS.
  • Assist patients by directing or escorting them to other clinical services (laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, immunizations, etc.) as required.
  • Prepare patient electronic health record (EHR) and other appropriate forms prior to patient's appointment (i.e.,school physical).

  • This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 25 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain a certification as a Certified Medical Assistant, within six months.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens
In order to qualify, you must meet the experience/and/or requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes one or more of the following providing clerical support within a medical treatment facility (MTF) or clinic; scheduling medical appointments for patients; screening, triaging, andtaking vital signs for assigned patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
OR
Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as, Medical Assistant, Nursing Assistant, Health Technician, Health Science, or Health Services.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
Time in Grade Requirement: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-5 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non temporary competitive appointment.
Licensure/Certification: Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
