Job Description

The Opportunity

Martello Re is seeking a Head of Strategic Initiatives to play a key role in developing and executing the company’s holistic business plan. Reporting to the Chief Strategy and Implementation Officer (CSIO), this person will be a key member of the Martello Re team and will be responsible for advancing core business strategies and creating optimal connectivity with internal and external stakeholders to support the company’s growth and optimization objectives.

This role offers an opportunity to join an exciting new startup and be a key architect in building the foundation for a sizable and enduring business.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Partner with the executive leadership team (ELT) to create and drive Martello’s strategy, priorities and target operating model. Responsible for bringing together crucial pieces of information such as strategic priorities, operational performance, innovations, markets, etc. from various internal and external sources in order to develop strategic options
  • Work closely with the executive leadership team to drive the setup of key infrastructure supporting our actuarial, finance, and investment functions. Ensure we build systems and processes that are: world-class, scalable, coordinated and efficient across functions and designed to support development of long-term competitive advantages
  • Ensure effectiveness and efficiency of operational processes while deploying a continuous improvement mindset
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Partner with business unit leads and the director of technology to optimize the company’s enterprise-wide technology ecosystem
  • Alongside the ELT, support the strategic planning process to ensure it is timely, focused and value adding.Deliver strategic and tactical projects and plans to improve the current operating model
  • Oversee complex business matters to ensure they are addressed properly and efficiently and keep track of progress until fully resolved
  • Partner with the ELT to establish and deliver on business planning, execution and reporting.Take a lead role in establishing and reviewing key strategic priorities and translating them into actionable and tangible plans.


Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Candidate must be flexible; team-oriented and have strong administrative skills that include ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills; propensity to challenge thinking, problem tackle and improve processes.Ability to translate raw information into actionable strategies and initiative
  • Distill complex materials into summary reports without oversimplifying or missing critical components
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills to interface between technical and non-technical personnel
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience with 5 years in investment management/banking/trading business management or operations
  • Experience with enterprise-wide systems, automation solutions, and operational best practices
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to identify root causes of issues and recommend resolutions

Compensation and Location

  • Competitive salary, bonus and benefits package commensurate with experience. Preference for position to be located in Bermuda or Charlotte, but also open to this being a virtual role located in the Eastern United States.
