Job Description
ERC covers the commuting cost of tolls at the Elizabeth River Tunnels for our employees.
  • In an effort to provide a safe work environment, ERC has required all employees to be fully vaccinated unless a medical or religious accommodation is requested and approved.
Essential Functions And Accountabilities
  • Maintains records in the satellite storage area for all hazardous material and waste activities.
  • Performs scheduled inspections on shop equipment.
  • Utilizes all assets management software to schedule and document preventive, corrective, and routine work.
  • 100% of all recordkeeping, documentation, reports. etc. submitted in accurate, readable format by due date.
  • Assumes responsibility for completion of related maintenance recordkeeping and administration.
  • Keeps management informed of areas activities and of significant concerns. Reports major concerns or significant problems.
  • Inputting and updating work orders and information in the Asset Management system. (Asset Essentials)
  • Operates computer to summarize fuel usage and mileage by type and account.
  • Road tests, inspects and troubleshoots automotive, and light and heavy-duty trucks and equipment to assess their condition and determine needed repairs.
  • Works in direct relationship with the EHS Manager to supervise and coordinate all hazardous material and waste activities.
  • Leads and performs preventive maintenance, skilled repairs and outfitting of ERC vehicles and light to heavy-duty trucks and equipment.
  • Provides training to all mechanic and maintenance positions relating to vehicles/equipment.
  • Works closely with the management team and vendors to procure equipment and vehicles.
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner and adhere to all laws governing vehicle operation; maintain safe driving record with zero preventable accidents.
  • Provides leadership to assigned personnel through effective objective setting, delegation, and communication. Conducts regular meetings to ensure that personnel are well informed of daily activities and safety requirements.
  • Ensures a clean and efficient shop environment.
  • Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Responsible for managing the procurement of parts and equipment with vendors and suppliers.
  • Assumes responsibility for the efficient and effective performance of maintenance activities and equipment usage.
  • Assists personnel as needed. Communicates regularly with personnel to ensure that repairs and maintenance needs are met and coordinated with maintenance schedules.
  • Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective communication and coordination with Company personnel and management.
  • Assists with budget creation and life cycle maintenance plans.
  • Assists and participates with scheduling and staffing for training and testing of maintenance assets and inclement weather events such as hurricanes and snow and ice operations.
  • Operates light/medium and heavy-duty maintenance equipment (pick-up, dump truck, crash cushion truck, cone truck, aerial lifts).
  • Effectively supervises Maintenance Department personnel, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Uses a wide variety of mechanical tools.
  • Manages and maintains an adequate inventory of all stock, tools, supplies and other equipment used in repairing and servicing vehicles and/or equipment.
  • Ensures an adequate inventory of necessary spare parts and materials is maintained.
  • Assigns and coordinates personnel. Directs daily operations.
  • Recommends and identifies training opportunities for the Fleet Maintenance Shop.
  • Controls and accounts for vehicles/equipment entering or leaving the building.
  • Coordinates and performs necessary repairs to accomplish maintenance activity; establishes work schedules and assigns mechanics to effectively carry out required work. Identify proper work methods, processes, flows and ensure that these are being met.
  • Schedules and reviews Preventive Maintenance Inspections (PMI), monitors repairs and performs vehicle/equipment audits to ensure mechanics adhere to safety, and regulatory requirements. Review trends of equipment or vehicle failures and communicate improvement opportunities to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Completes related paperwork and records.
  • Follow-up with warranty paperwork procedures to ensure this process is done efficiently. Monitors key expenses (e.g., fuel, replacement parts, tires, labor hours, equipment, etc.) to assist with identifying cost-saving strategies.
  • Keeps accurate records of the fuel usage and levels by type and account.
  • Develops a preventive maintenance schedule for vehicles and equipment.
  • Creates and maintains vehicle and equipment score cards.
  • Keeps records of all work performed and updates maintenance history logs.

Performance Measurements
  • Leads and guides the personnel in the successful completion of maintenance activities as directed by the Maintenance Manager.
  • Maintenance and repair functions are effectively completed in accordance with established safety standards and Company policies. Equipment is appropriately maintained and is used according to the established safety standards, operating instructions and standard operating procedures (SOP’s).
  • Good communication and coordination are maintained with maintenance personnel and management. Assistance and support are provided as needed. Management is appropriately informed.
  • Maintenance problems are promptly identified, managed and resolved with minimal disruption to maintenance schedules.
  • Accurate records and logs are maintained within the asset management system (Asset Essentials). Equipment is appropriately controlled and accounted for.
Qualifications
Education/Certification:
High school graduate or equivalent (GED). Must be at least 21 years old.
Experience Required
A minimum of eight (6) years of experience in the repair and maintenance of light and heavy automotive, and maintenance equipment experience; AND, completion of vocational education or training courses in automotive technology or automotive mechanics or related subject; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Prior experience managing and leading work groups is required. Virginia State inspection, Class B CDL and ASE certifications is required.
Skills/Abilities
  • Maintain a Virginia State Inspectors License
  • Read and interpret repair of manuals and diagrams.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
