Faculty Internship/Student Teaching

ROLE SUMMARY
Faculty members at Valor Christian High School are charged with preparing tomorrow’s leaders to transform the world for Christ. Valor Faculty live out a compelling relationship with Jesus Christ, which is central to daily instruction and interactions with students, parents and team members. Valor Faculty Interns are both teachers and learners. They work closely with Valor’s Faculty team to be an integral part of the instructional staff and willingly accept the duties commensurate with the role of a full-time teacher.

Valor Christian High School is a decidedly Christian, college preparatory school whose core values honor a biblical foundation. Valor employees are faith-centered, believers active in a local, Christian church whose beliefs are aligned with Valor’s Statement of Beliefs. The Faculty Intern appropriately integrates faith into their daily work. You will be most successful if you have a true servant’s heart, a teachable spirit, a love for the Lord Jesus Christ, and a commitment to the school’s beliefs and values.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Possess a Commitment to Instructional Excellence
  • Implore meaningful instructional techniques and texture in the classroom to engage a variety of learning styles and promote critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and innovation
  • Develop and utilize appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, and materials, that reflect an understanding of the learning styles and needs of students
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning through informal and formal assessment and provide timely feedback to students
  • In collaboration with the Cooperating Teacher, intentionally integrate Biblical truth and Christian values into curriculum and instruction
  • Collaborate with the assigned department and Cooperating Teacher to prepare, develop, and deliver quality learning experiences for students

Promote and Uphold a Positive Learning Environment
  • Provide a learning environment and classroom management style built upon mutual respect and conducive to student learning
  • Provide and uphold a positive classroom learning environment, in alignment with Valor’s behavior expectations of: Respect People, Respect Property, and Preserve the Learning Environment
  • Collaborate with Cooperating Teacher to promote student engagement and afford opportunities for student support

  • Demonstrate a love for students and a desire to personally invest in their academic and spiritual development
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, administrators, and colleagues. Use effective oral and written communication skills to present information in support of the intellectual, social, emotional, physical, and spiritual needs of students

RESULTS
  • In collaboration with Valor team members, the Faculty Intern will complete all required program expectations and requirements as determined by their university
  • The Faculty Intern will serve under the guidance of the Cooperating Teacher. An emphasis will be placed on observations, participating in school-wide activities, learning administrative tasks, grading, learning of classroom routines and procedures, etc.
  • Through classroom instruction, exceptional learning experiences, and interactions with the Faculty Intern, students will have the opportunity to experience God’s love and know that God has a plan and purpose for their life
  • Over the course of the internship, the Faculty Intern will gradually increase responsibilities in the classroom. Eventually the Faculty Intern, in collaboration with team members, will be responsible for the full planning, instruction, and assessment of student learning.


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • In-depth knowledge of teaching methods and appropriate training for an educational setting
  • Bachelor’s degree in progress or nearly completed from an accredited college or university in a discipline closely related to the subject to be taught
  • Solid biblical and theological foundation and understanding
  • Preferred experience in working with young adults in either a school or church setting
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The same basic physical demands described here are the same for all employees to successfully perform the essential functions of their jobs. Employees must periodically lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and could occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral/depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics are varied and include classroom, office, and outdoor events while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is also varied.
