A Day in the Life of an Engineer I/II

As an Engineer I/II, the things you design will get built! You'll use state of the art tools and practices to help create sustainable multimodal transportation infrastructure. You'll work with your colleagues to engage communities, develop concepts, produce quick-build schematic-level construction documents, and assist with the implementation of multimodal projects that range from small improvements to full-scale street reconfigurations. In an industry that is constantly changing, you'll be at the forefront of designing and implementing real solutions.

Qualifications Of a Senior Civil Engineer/Roadway Engineer

• Excellent task and time management skills
• Interest in multimodal and active transportation issues and design (specifically for bicycle, pedestrian, Safe Routes to School, and/or transit integration) for all ages and abilities
• 0+ years (entry level) of transportation facility design experience, with a demonstrated interest in developing construction documents
• Experience with Computer Automated Design (preferably MicroStation but AutoCad OK)
• Experience with the Microsoft Office suite of applications
• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in civil/transportation engineering
• Excellent communication skills

Work Schedule for an Engineer I/II

This full-time position typically works a flexible schedule of 40 hours a week. We also provide employees with the flexibility and necessary equipment to work from home 2-3 days per week.

Austin is one of the most exciting cities for multimodal transportation. Whether it's helping to deliver Austin's Mobility Bond projects, updating the City's Urban Trails and Sidewalks Plans, designing high-comfort bikeways in Houston, or creating District-level Bike Plans for TxDOT, Toole Design is helping to shape the future of Texas.

Since 2017, a team of Toole Design engineers and planners have provided full-time, on-site staff augmentation to the City of Austin's Transportation Department to deliver Mobility Bond projects. We are creating a new, standalone Austin office to complement this team by working on a range of planning and design projects across Texas, many of which are already underway. This position will be part of our full-time, on-site staff augmentation to the City of Austin's Transportation Department. Our contract supports the Bikeways, Safe Routes to School, and Sidewalks bond programs, and Transit Speed & Reliability work in partnership with the Capital Metro Transportation Authority.
