Job Description
& Responsibilities


The technical editor will assist colleagues and clients, many of whom work remotely in offices throughout California and the U.S., in multiple aspects of TRC’s Advanced Energy business practice. Job tasks include editing, formatting, and quality control of multiple client-facing deliverables including (but not limited to) engineering reports, new business proposals, and marketing collateral. Some data management (mostly using Microsoft Access) may be required.


The technical editor will be responsible for the following job tasks:
  • Estimate and document work load to establish completion dates while keeping stakeholders up to date on project status
  • Produce high quality proposals and deliver bound and/or electronic responses within firm deadlines
  • Edit responses for formatting, grammar, and spelling errors
  • Develop specific proposal, qualifications, and form responses, making sure that all technical and administrative requirements are met
  • Ensure that documents are written in a clear and consistent tone and voice
  • New business proposal support
  • Understand and follow all company document control procedures to ensure smooth tracking, retrieval, archiving, and back-up of documents relation to program activities and deliverables
  • Review proposal-related requirements and ensure that responses meet requirements
  • Create of a variety of internal and customer-facing documents and deliverables using a variety of software applications
  • Provide miscellaneous support to TRC program managers and engineers as requested.
  • Format documents in alignment with internal and external style guides
  • Assemble multiple documents for electronic distribution to clients and potential clients in a timely and organized fashion
  • Edit and finalize client facing and internal deliverables
  • Ensure that grammar, spelling, and punctuation are executed correctly


Provide support for administrative and technical staff members as available when primary duties are fulfilled or workload requires.


  • Experience/knowledge with technical writing/editing and proposal writing for Energy/Engineering or related discipline strongly preferred**


Education
  • Experience supporting multiple business programs and platforms,
  • Motivated team player who likes a collegial environment,
  • Experience working with remote colleagues and clients a plus,
  • Degree in English or technical and professional writing preferred,
  • Minor in graphic design a plus
  • Desire to work in the field of energy efficiency, renewable energy generation
  • Some experience preferred in engineering, mathematics, science, or other technical writing background.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in document and process control, analysis, and reporting (engineering or scientific background preferred, but not required),
  • Experience writing and/or editing grants or new business proposals,
  • Self-starter and self-reliant, but with the ability to work both independently and within a team structure.
  • Proficient with software applications
  • Excel and PowerPoint: basic familiarity
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Editing experience
  • Microsoft Word: power or expert-level user; must be an expert with Styles
  • Basic project management skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required
  • Excellent grammatical and rhetorical skills
  • Adobe Creative Suite
  • Ability to edit individually or within a team structure
  • Microsoft Access
  • Familiar with software applications
  • Understand and execute basic editing concepts: proofreading, copy marking, editing/rewriting, etc.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new skills and concepts a big plus
  • Adobe Acrobat
Experience working in an engineering or energy services environment a plus.
