Assists the professional staff with the delivery of services to patients in a variety of settings.
Provides direct patient care, and/or one to one observation to selected patients under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse. Assists, escorts and transports patients.
Responsibilities
A. Clinical/Technical/Service
- Provides minor treatments as directed - dressings, application of ace bandages, applications of slings and ice, pediculosis
- Collects specimens, performs venipunctures and fingersticks for blood glucose
- Assists with the application of casts and splints
- Provides post-mortem care
- Assists patients to get needed services by communicating those needs to the nurse
- Performs eye irrigations
- Obtains EKGs as ordered
- Provides direct patient care, including all vital signs, and pulse oximetry, and assists with ADL.
- Prepares, adjusts, and teaches the use of crutches and canes
- Is cognizant of the need for safety devices; applies or assists with the application
- Performs Patient observations: Safety and Constant/One to One observation of selected patients under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse
- Communicates information to patients, families, and visitors
- Maintains BCLS certification as required by EMS standard
- Assists the professional staff with the delivery of services to patients in a variety of settings
- Sets up, stocks, and maintains examining rooms
- Assists with patients’ examinations
- Performs and assists with designated procedures, using an aseptic technique as indicated
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned area
- Obtains and provides nourishment for patients
- Assists, escorts, and transports patients

D. Communication/Relationships
- Displays courtesy, tact, and patience during interactions with all members of the hospital staff and extended community
- Adheres to Mount Sinai Morningside/West legal and ethical standards
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned
- Demonstrates a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude in dealing with patients, families and significant others

Qualifications
- Ability to read, write and comprehend English.
- Spanish speaking preferred,
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree desirable.
- Medical Assistant experience preferred
- American Heart Association BLS Certification
- Graduate from an approved Medical Assistant Program or equivalent.

Compensation
The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $22.4 - $23.65 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
