Job Description

The Education Director of Digital Design works directly with the Vice President of Academic Affairs and oversees the faculty and curricula of all courses at Full Sail University, within one of our Education Schools. Therefore, Education Directors of subject areas oversee multiple degree programs and have Program Directors as direct reports. They are responsible for all aspects of the degree programs within their assigned school, including (1) ensuring that program curricula remain current and relevant; (2) selecting appropriate technology; (3) building and managing a team of educators and education leaders; (4) creating and maintaining program budgets; (5) planning and coordinating Program Advisory Committee (PAC) boards; and (6) serving as an ambassador to the industry. Programs supervised by this position may include all certificates, associates, and bachelors programs related to Computer Animation, Game Art, Digital Art and Design, and Graphic Design.
The Education Director of Digital Design is required to be present on campus during regular business hours Monday through Friday to support their staff and students. They must also be on call for emergency issues or to participate in additional duties outside of regular business hours. Furthermore, the Education Director must be available to be on campus one Sunday out of every month to assist with Behind the Scenes (BTS) activities. All positions are full time, on-campus in Winter Park, FL.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Advise Program Directors, Department Chairs, and instructors on the best practices for resolving student issues
  • Work with Education Operations to define and support budgeted expenditures such as PROs requests, student resource needs, facilities, and equipment to support degree and institutional strategic plans.
  • Maintain compliance with ACCSC Standards of Accreditation, state laws, and the Department of Education.
  • Work under the direction of the Vice President of Academic Affairs and in collaboration with executive leadership to promote and refine the image of the school and their degree programs, addressing the long-term perception of the students, prospective students, clients, and associates.
  • Maintain and report on all courses as defined by Vice President of Academic Affairs and Vice President of Academic Innovation.
  • Collaborate with other Education Directors, Program Directors, Department Chairs, Course Directors, Associate Course Directors, Lab Specialists, academic support teams, and across disciplines in Integrated Knowledge Communities (IKCs) to reduce redundancy, ensure a connected curriculum, and design innovative and supportive learning environments.
  • Evaluate degree program effectiveness by gathering data, evaluating interventions, and reporting on student persistence, academic success, and the achievement of learning outcomes.
  • Develop and implement consistent policies and procedures for the program staff, all of which must be in accordance with Full Sail University’s Policy Manual, Faculty Manual, and Student Manual.
  • Collaborate with the Career Development department to monitor and continuously improve job placement rates. This includes collecting and implementing feedback from companies hiring our graduates, as well as ensuring proper communication to our employers and alumni about our program learning outcomes.
  • Responsible for the planning, development, and evolution of educational programs.
  • Support and nurture Full Sail University’s vibrant culture by aligning the faculty and program in the objectives, methods, and philosophies of the university.
  • Collaborate with Director of Faculty Affairs and Development to advise on competency areas, training, coaching, developing, and annual review requirements to maintain a relevant, individualized, and comprehensive Faculty Professional Development plans for the education team.
  • Document, archive, and maintain records on student issues, program learning outcomes, program versioning, lesson plans, syllabi, faculty credentials, professional development records, PAC minutes, student progress, student projects, and other needs determined by the Academic Affairs department.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the university’s annual assessment plans in partnership with executive leadership, the Director of Academic Effectiveness, and the Institutional Effectiveness department to measure the integration of academic processes, procedures, and teaching methods to meet established outcomes.
  • Maximize the many industry opportunities that are offered to our students.
  • Work with the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Vice President of Academic Innovation to strengthen academic strategies, academic assessment, learner engagement, and technology solutions that value a student’s academic, professional, and personal goals.
  • Manage, implement, and evaluate the design, structure, quality, consistency, and continuity of the program curriculum, lesson plans, and all class materials.
  • Promote collaboration between programs, staff, and students. This includes assisting with new student orientation activities, monthly graduation ceremonies, the cross-utilization of faculty, and the support of cross-departmental university initiatives and special events.
  • Act as ambassadors to the industry by promoting Industry relationships and recruiting Program Advisory Committee (PAC) members. Hold two meetings a year with the PAC (one onsite and one virtual meeting) and keep accurate minutes with content required by the university’s accrediting agency.
  • Assist Marketing and Admissions departments with inquiries concerning updates to course materials, policies, and staff to ensure proper communication about degree programs and accuracy of campus events (Behind the Scenes (BTS) tour, orientation, etc.).
  • Work with Faculty Affairs for staffing and recruitment needs based on budget and program needs.
  • Recommend reference materials for the university’s Media Center and Library.
  • Supervise Program Directors to ensure the seamless integration of general education learning outcomes within each of program.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Oversee staff, program directors, department chairs, course directors, associate course directors, and lab specialists to ensure integrity of curriculum and university/degree learning outcomes.

Education and/or Experience:

The ideal candidate must have a minimum of six (6) years related and verifiable work experience and preferably hold a Doctorate or terminal Master’s degree related to the discipline areas they manage from an accredited college or university required. Preference will be given to candidates with Computer Animation, Digital Arts, Game Art, Game Design, Graphic Design, Media Design, Education Leadership, Organization Development, Instructional Design, or related fields. Requirements will be varied based on our accrediting commission.
Experience with online course development and learning technologies is required. The candidate should be able to demonstrate experience independently developing course curriculum, syllabi, lesson plans, and assessments. The ability to draw meaningful correlations between the media arts and liberal studies curricula is an essential attribute. Special consideration will be given to candidates with more than six years of administrative experience in education with a proven track record of project supervision and success.

This position requires a forward thinking, tech savvy education leader with exceptional interpersonal skills and proven leadership ability. This person should also be well-versed in challenges that face today’s college students and be prepared to assist faculty with designing and implementing coursework that promotes project-based learning via a variety of mediums.
