IDS International is looking for an Education Counselor to support the Soldiers for Life – Transition Assistance Program (SFL TAP). This role is the SFL-TAP Center's principal provider of financial planning to transitioning Service Members and their family members.

This position is subject to the Service Contract Act (SCA). Wages and benefits are determined by the appropriate area wage determination.

Responsibilities:

• Follow up with clients within 7 days of the conclusion of the Higher Education Track class/workshop to offer assistance towards goal achievement (e.g., offer assistance in timely submission of college applications).
• Recommend that the clients utilize the personal assessment tools available such as the Kuder Career Planning System. In addition, the contractor shall provide an interpretation of the results.
• Monitor and document educational goals, counseling remarks, and achievement of the CRS in the client’s records Transition tracking systems (e.g. TAP XXI, etc.).
• Assist Soldiers transitioning from active duty in completing requirements for admission to military schools or programs. These include: United States Military Academy Preparatory School (USMAPS), Army Green to Gold Scholarship or non- Scholarship options, and the Health Professions Scholarship Program.
• Provide information about financial assistance and education benefits such as the Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB), Post 9-11 GI Bill, Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), scholarships, maximizing the use of veterans’ education benefits, and other applications for student and financial aid.
• Follow up with clients with-in 60 days following the client’s completion of the Higher Education Track Class/workshop to track status of progress and to offer assistance with reaching their education/occupational goals.
• Provide education counseling to assist transitioning Soldiers with education and occupational goal establishment, capability and/or needs assessment interpretation, and school admission applications.

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum of 1-3 years of experience with a Master’s degree. Additional experience (5-7 years) can substitute for the advanced degree.

Computer Skills:

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Must be an effective communicator both verbally and in writing. Most positions require ability to work on a desktop or laptop computer for extended periods of time. Computer activities include reading, reviewing and analyzing information, as well as providing recommendations, summaries, and reports in written or verbal format. Additionally, positions require ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods; use hand(s) to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; as well as speak and hear.
