Job Description
Summary

The Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Coordinator facilitates progress toward greater racial justice in the ICC district by developing and promoting a Racial Equity model as an organizing framework for positively impacting the social determinants of equity outcomes among populations of color.

Essential Functions

  • Provides District 514 equity reports annually.
  • Co-chair the MSRT Committee.
  • Leads the coordination of a diversity, inclusion, and equity initiative for Illinois Central College that may include an institutional self-assessment, coordination of employee development programs, and a framework for accountability related to diversity, inclusion, and equity.
  • Tracks and documents project activities for grant reporting, internal monitoring, and project evaluation.
  • Work towards the development of local racial-equity policy agendas to help increase the capacity of communities of color to advocate for and shape the implementation of evidence-driven action strategies. This work will include sustaining and deepening community participation as well as garnering commitment from key local policymakers, stakeholders and institutions in support of a racial equity policy agenda focused on the social determinants of health.
  • Builds and maintains relationships local leaders and key institutions (government agencies, non-profit service providers, advocacy groups, funders, employer groups, and academic institutions) to develop and support their commitment to reduce racial disparities.
  • Makes presentations to promote public and stakeholder awareness of relevant racial disparity data as well as best practices and strategies to address racial inequities.
  • Perform related duties as required.
  • Provides periodic consultation and training to employees, community leaders and organizations to strengthen their advocacy for racial justice.
  • Support partner organizations and community leaders to effectively utilize the Race to Equity model by providing training, technical assistance, and coaching.
  • Coordinates the development of a regional racial equity policy agenda that will make significant and lasting change by converging the various local racial equity agendas that is reflective and responsive to issues facing families of color.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A bachelor’s degree in a related field.
2. Commitment to social, racial, and ethnic justice.
3. Basic knowledge and comfort with race theory, social justice, and equity concepts.
4. The ability to establish rapport and relate sensitively to a multiracial and multicultural group of partners as well as excellent interpersonal skills and experience collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team is necessary.
5. Self-motivated, creative thinker with excellent organizational skills.
6. Experience in community organizing and coalition building.
7. Strong written and oral communication skills.
8. Excellent relationship and networking skills.
9. Strong multi-tasking and prioritization skills.
10. Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with other

Preferred Qualifications

1. Grant management experience.
2. Prior experience with racial equity discussions and/or initiatives.
