Job Summary / General Description

Direct and train category managers and their teams. Ensure appropriate inventory levels are maintained based on cycles, needs, and trends. Negotiate the purchase of all inventory levels for the Grocery Division.

Essential Job Functions / Principal Accountabilities

• Establish purchasing policies and ensure compliance.
• Manage inventory levels in such a manner to achieve DSII, Overstock, Service Level goals and objectives.
• Direct, train, coach, and mentor direct and indirect reports.
• Direct a team of buyers and category managers to ensure successful and ideal inventory levels.
• Direct the assortment strategy and budgets for multiple categories.
• Work closely with merchandising department to ensure inventory levels are adequate and ensure accurate forecasting.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Design, document, and track performance-based wholesale income programs in accordance with company policy and Sarbanes Oxley requirements.
• Negotiate with vendors for goods at the best possible price. Negotiate special terms, discounts, allowances and payment dating in all appropriate opportunities.
• Work with SR Director to determine appropriate budgetary needs for team including headcount, payroll, and travel. Forecast savings and additional costs as appropriate.
• Negotiate blanket purchase orders when appropriate and closely monitor costs.
• Evaluate demand, trends, and inventory levels to determine needs.

Minimum Qualifications And Requirements

• Excellent written/verbal communication skills.
• Excellent negotiating skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships quickly at all levels within the organization and with external contacts to foster trust and credibility while achieving key operating objectives.
• 5 or more years of progressively responsible experience in purchasing.
• Strong leadership/coaching skills required.
• BS degree in Business or related major.
• Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
• 3 or more years of managerial and/or project management experience is required.
• Strong quantitative analytical skills and an innovative approach to problem-solving.
• 7 or more years of experience in a large retail, grocery or food service distribution company preferred.
• Experience with wholesale/retail industries is required.
• Experience with inventory planning, forecasting techniques, operation systems and warehouse management.

Working Conditions

• The work conditions are primarily being an office, vehicle, or customer store.
• This position has official supervisory responsibilities.
• Some travel required (less than 10%)
