Alation is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Project Management Office (PMO) to establish and lead our PMO in a growing business. As the Director of PMO, you will report to Alation's Chief Financial Officer and be responsible for developing and implementing project management processes, methodologies, and best practices to ensure successful project execution and delivery. You will also be responsible for building and managing a team of one (1) direct report and providing strategic guidance to the executive leadership and senior management on both existing and new strategic initiatives and company-wide projects.


This is a critical role that requires excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills, as well as a strong background in project management.


What You'll Need


  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define project objectives, scope, deliverables, and timelines, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Conduct regular project reviews and post-project evaluations to identify lessons learned and drive process improvements.
  • Draft presentations and documents to succinctly communicate and frame the strategy to internal and external constituents including Board, leadership team, and potential investors.
  • Work with the executive team and extended leadership team to identify, track, and drive strategic initiatives process.
  • Manage our strategic initiative process and develop requirements to achieve current year and long term goals.
  • Run large cross-functional projects and ensure that team members have clear timelines and deliverables.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication channels to keep stakeholders informed of project status, risks, and changes.
  • Draft project management office policies and processes.
  • Define and embed project controls and governance.
  • Provide and maintain capacity planning and resource tracking across each program.
  • Create frameworks to help stakeholders evaluate and present decisions as well as make program choices as needed.
  • Set deadlines, prioritize tasks, assign team members to various deliverables, identify interdependencies, define risks, and adhere to budget.
  • Keep executive team and Board apprised of progress.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the PMO and across project teams.
  • Document each project’s creation, development, and execution as well as the project’s scope, budget, ROI, and justification.


What You'll Need


  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Background in strategy and consulting.
  • Ability to competently mediate disagreements and negotiate agreeable resolutions.
  • Highly efficient in resource planning and task assignmentDiplomatic ability to influence others at all levels.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate team members.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Strong skills in creating and maintaining project and program plans, including risks, actions, issues, and dependencies.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools.
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing and leading a PMO or similar function within a growing organization.
  • Proven experience of managing the complete lifecycle of a project with large project teams from several functional areas.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, project management, or a related field. A master's degree is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, tools, and techniques.


$180,000 - $210,000 a year


The base salary range is specific to the United States. The salary of the final candidate selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, experience, education, work location, specialty, and training. If the final candidate has a different level of experience, the base salary target range may be lower or higher than what is published.
