How will you make an impact in this role?


The Director of Project Management is responsible for leading the management of multiple interrelated projects over various business units within American Express. The Director of Project Management manages the Project Management team that delivers solution-oriented, project workplans, on time and within budget with a focus on driving results and client satisfaction. The Director of Project Management continuously assesses the health of internal processes, tools and systems to identify gaps and training needs.


Collaborate with Leadership Teams across various subject areas to facilitate seamless operation in the workflow management to drive deliverability, technology implementation and solutions consulting projects. Requirements of this position include handling staffing and project based matters, handle multiple tasks, work with tight deadlines and under pressure. The Director of Project Management must form a strong relationship with their Account, Creative, Strategy, and Production counterparts to collectively take ownership of building client relationships and drive business goals. Responsible for ensuring project scope, deliverables, and resources are well defined, risk is identified and mitigated, and change impact is addressed at both a project and portfolio level.


Responsibilities


  • Negotiate conflict and manage differences of opinion, and communicate with difficult client/team members effectively
  • Identify business needs for delivery support and appropriately align resources against those needs – educate teams when necessary on roles and responsibilities
  • High level of competency around resource management, utilization and reporting
  • Partner with Client Leadership to manage client needs and expectations based on specific marketing initiatives focusing on project planning and flawless execution
  • Partner with clients, vendors and partner agencies in a positive, professional and constructive way to establish solid relationships
  • Consistently sets clear expectations with the team for their role in delivering to the project regarding tasks and deliverable - can delegate appropriately and successfully
  • Has the ability and skill to challenge time estimates and fundamentally understands level of effort on difficult and intangible tasks
  • Raises issues appropriately, proactively and professionally at all times
  • Communicate scope change, resourcing and financial implications to Senior Management in a clear and timely manner
  • Complete multi-dependency projects and resolve critical project-based situations
  • Longer term opportunities or ways to improve current client deliverables
  • Develop comprehensive work plans, including determining scopes, developing schedules and budgets that accurately reflect scope of work, with specific focus on consulting-type engagements and deliverables
  • Maintain positive demeanor and “can do” attitude
  • Identify gaps in project plans and educate the team on finding closure
  • Has the foresight to see beyond explicit assignments and identify broader
  • Respond constructively to mistakes and setbacks
  • Communicate to large teams and across inter-departments
  • Strong team builder with client and cross-capability teams, clarifying roles and expectations
  • Successfully lead large teams to develop risk mitigation plans (when appropriate)
  • Has demonstrated ability to lead client discussions on project plans to ensure Client understands tradeoffs and approval process
  • Track and maintain budgets of program to ensure agency profitability
  • Forge strong relationships with internal clients – demonstrate ability to manage at various levels from top-down, bottom-up and across

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Effective negotiation and conflict management/risk mitigation skills
  • Solid track record for successfully developing project plans from start to completion, on time and budget
  • Strong organizational, and follow-up skills
  • Strong digital experience across multiple channels
  • Leads an effective and efficient discussion, ensuring agenda stays on track and adequate decisions are made
  • Excellent communication skills regarding workflow steps and internal processes
  • Accountability and flexibility with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Thinks clearly and diplomatically when participating in complex and sensitive discussion with internal groups
  • Demonstrates ability to guide continuous improvement in team
  • Demonstrates and articulates professional standards of behavior for junior and mid-level staff
  • 7+ years of relevant experience within advertising agency environment
  • Demonstrates ability to define and implement professional standards for team participation, conflict resolution, problem solving, and communication (internal and external agency)
  • Serve as a positive influence across peer groups
  • Strong team builder across agency teams, clarifying roles and expectations
  • Demonstrated ability to craft scopes, deliverables and to be able to show value as it relates to the execution of creative led opportunities
  • Encourages and rewards examples of partnership and collaborative work efforts
  • Confident problem solver – willingness to have difficult conversations with positive outcome
  • Exhibits strong listening skills and tactfully communicates position on relevant issues
  • Supervisory experience to a minimum of 4 direct reports of Senior Managers
  • Demonstrates professional presentation, training and client facing skills
  • Takes initiative and personal responsibility for work
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask
  • PC proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver constructive feedback and get positive results, including mentoring and facilitating development plans
  • Management of teams and supervisory experience.

  • Typically reports to VP, Operations & Production
  • This position will have direct reports and indirect reports

Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits


The above represents the expected salary range for this job requisition. Ultimately, in determining your pay, we'll consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors.
