The People + Culture Director is a critical HR position that will provide change management leadership and play a key role in promoting a culture where our employees can thrive. The ideal candidate will be a confident leader with demonstrated experience collecting and synthesizing input from stakeholders, identifying opportunities for improvement, proposing creative and pragmatic solutions, and thoughtfully designing relevant initiatives.


The People + Culture Director provides strategic vision and leadership to a full-service HR team responsible for all human resource functions for multi-channel, multistate sales efforts. The People & Culture Director is a member of the Leadership Team and participates in overall vision and policy decision making. This position supports and contributes to our mission by: Leading all efforts to hire, engage and develop a diverse organizational team who will best contribute to the success of goals as well as driving a culture where employees are challenged, recognized and rewarded.


Position Duties/Responsibilities


Organizational Leadership


  • Adopt and exemplify our values; encourage and recognize these values in colleagues throughout the organization.
  • Lead organizational training and development efforts including assessing organizational needs; identifying and supporting opportunities for management and employee professional development and growth; working with LT to identify personnel challenges or talent gaps and collaborating to develop solutions to address them.
  • Oversee the creation and implementation of programs that build momentum for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Build and evolve talent development processes including organizational core competencies, goal setting, performance metrics, 360-degree feedback, coaching, and reviews.
  • Perform additional duties/responsibilities as requested which contribute to the position's success and the mission.
  • Participate in decision making related to organizational structure.
  • Participate in strategic planning, annual budget process and decision making related to the organization's strategic goals and priorities.
  • Oversee management, creation and distribution of internal communications.
  • Attend and actively contribute to all Leadership Team (LT) meetings.
  • Help ensure that the company is a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace where all employees feel valued and can thrive.
  • Define and create strategies for organizational culture goals; assess and advance employee engagement and satisfaction.
  • Oversee Human Resources annual planning, budget, administration and operations.
  • Establish and implement short-and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.


Preferred Experience/Knowledge/Education/Skills/Abilities


  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, cultural sensitivity, and a commitment to the company mission
  • Unquestioned integrity with the experience, confidence and presence to effectively handle interpersonal relationships and sensitive HR issues
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to organize and present information and analysis to diverse audiences in variety of formats
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict management skills
  • Minimum four years management/supervisory experience, stratigic planning, preferably in mid-size, multi-state retail business organization, with increasing levels of responsibility and leadership duties
  • Bachelor's degree required (business administration, human resources or related field) or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum eight years' experience in human resources required, including but not limited to performance management, recruiting and selection, employee engagement/relations, employee benefits and compensation programs
  • Ability to collaborate in a team-based environment and lead HR team to successfully meet goals and deadlines
  • Proven ability to use sound judgment and adhere to strict standards of confidentiality
  • Experience developing, implementing and evaluating HR policies
  • Knowledge of human resources law
