Job Description

Director of Logistics, North America

The Organization

Our client is a multinational manufacturing company, specializing in parts provided to energy, construction, automotive, and mechanical industries.

The Opportunity

The Director, NA Logistics, is accountable for the North America Region’s overall Logistics flows in support of the Business Units. These initiatives include but are not limited to manage Imports, inventory control, logistics, outsourcing/vendor selection.

The Director will develop strategic plans to execute corporate initiatives and improve key performance indicators such as delivery performance, logistics cost, Days on Hand (DOH) inventory targets, all in closed coordination with Imports S&OP activity that bridges all product lines, business units and supports the optimization of financial performance of the division.

The Position:

Reporting to the Vice-President of Supply Chain, North America, the individual in this role should have an extensive Logistics & Operations background, should be knowledgeable in any Enterprise resource planning (ERP) or Database management software; demonstrate excellent communication and leadership skills, such as ability to Drive Performance (energizing the team, sharing the goals and rallying them towards the company strategy) and ability to challenge the status quo - challenging the current way of doing things and proposing new ones using external & internal benchmark and trends.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

· Develop outbound strategy.

· Coordinate international and domestic flow of materials that occur between business units and between regions.

· Manage Corp Logistics Budget

· Create integrated processes between Imports, Port Operations and Domestic Logistics to execute efficient flow of products.

· Facilitate effective flow route management that is able to identify key bottlenecks and develop strategies to effectively manage those constraints.

· Coordinate outsourcing efforts to align with strategies and regional tactical plans.

· Identify system tools needed to implement or improve planning and forecasting routines.

· Establish and maintain key performance metrics and benchmarks in relations to all aspects of supply chain.

· Measure KPI performance and report to executive management on regular basis

· Support key corporate initiatives in the areas Imports and Logistics

· Coordinate the development of solutions to complex supply chain problems with other product lines, business units, support functions, customers, and suppliers.

  • Work closely with the Senior Vice President Supply Chain to optimize the overall results of the organization.
  • Participate in the forecasting and reporting process to improve accuracy and reliability.
  • Forecast reviews and updates.
  • Work with HR to develop current staff as well as recruit staffing for future growth needs. In particular, prepare succession planning for critical positions.
  • Board meetings
  • Feed S&OP process with regularly updated Demand reviews
  • Monthly/Quarterly Performance reviews

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks efficiently and effectively.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must have excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.

Education/Experience:

· Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Transportation, Business or other related discipline (master’s degree preferred)

  • 5-7 years of experience in a Supply Chain function

· Certification associated with Supply Chain Professionals CLTD (Certified Logistics, Transportation and Distribution), CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management), CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional) or other is preferred.

· Project management skills and experience are a must.

· Cost accounting and business knowledge

· Procurement system knowledge or experience

· Experience with MRP and ERP systems and related concepts

· Experience with logistics in rail, truck, and marine shipments

· Strong oral and written communication skills – this position reports frequently to executive management at the regional and corporate level

· Able to simplify and execute difficult, complex initiatives and problem solving.

· Ability to effectively operate in a fast-moving international business environment.

· Possess knowledge of Imports activities, including US Customs clearance procedures, required documentations and overall restrictions and rules in place.

· Must possess intermediate Microsoft Office application skills.

· Excellent communication and customer relations skills

· Excellent problem solving and organizational skills.

· Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills

  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications

Computer Skills:

  • Knowledge of MS Office products, i.e. Word and Excel. Advanced organizational skills to allow for the easy retrieval of files and documents.
