IT Director of Enterprise Business Systems
San Diego, CA (Near Scripps Ranch)

One of our clients in San Diego, CA has asked us to assist them in a high-priority search for a Director of Enterprise Business Systems. This is a direct, full-time placement with our client and is not a contract/consulting position. This is a hybrid position that requires candidates to work onsite at the company’s headquarters in San Diego two to three (2-3) days a week. They want us to help them find the very best talent available.
Our client, a global consumer products company, is seeking a Director of Enterprise Business Systems. The person who fills this position will lead the strategy and operational execution of the Enterprise Business Systems IT function in service to business units within HQ (Scripps Ranch), Americas, and Asia Pacific trading blocks. This person will be responsible for helping to facilitate the evaluation, selection, deployment, and overall operational excellence of enterprise-level business system solutions including but not limited to ERP and CRM. A description of the position is listed below.
Position Description and Purpose:
The candidate that fills this position will be responsible for overseeing the management and development of all business systems used within our client’s organization. The person in this role should possess extensive knowledge and experience in enterprise-level software systems and be able to lead a team responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining these systems. The Director of Enterprise Business Systems will be responsible for ensuring that the business systems are aligned with the overall business strategy and objectives of the company.
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide functional area leadership by ensuring the appropriate ongoing development of team members to effectively support business requirements and by being an exemplary role model upholding company values
- Ensure the delivery and presentation of agreed-upon metrics at a frequency and format desired for the purposes of improving services provided by the functional area
- Inspire and motivate team members to effectively collaborate with Project Managers-Business Analysts to deliver the desired results from our business partners within expected timeframes
- Ensure team and system adoption of approved and ongoing Information Security strategy
- Develop effective relationships with key business partners within and outside of IT in order to understand demand, and strategic needs and to provide the best customer service possible
- Proactively seek continuous improvement in areas of responsibility in support of “making it better than it is today” by maintaining a deep, comprehensive knowledge base of applicable business solutions, trends, and best practices.
- Provide technical guidance to team members to ensure appropriate solutions are selected and effective outcomes achieved
- Develop and maintain control over budgetary items and associated expenses
- Responsible for engaging, leveraging, and effectively managing vendors through building strong, collateral relationships and applying appropriate negotiating skills to ensure desired value is being delivered
- Participates in Enterprise Business System agile planning and prioritization group(s); bringing forth IT requests and engaging in discussing the value of all requests that are brought forward for consideration by the group
- Ensure solution and team adherence to corporate ethics and compliance programs
- Proactively drive continuous team adoption of approved methodologies and tools relative to project execution (Agile) and service delivery (ITIL) in support of high-quality outcomes, regulatory requirements, reduced costs, increased efficiencies, and improved system performance
- The candidate that fills this role will be responsible for developing strategic and tactical multi-year implementation plans for enterprise-level business application systems in support of organizational objectives through collaboration and counsel with business partners, executives, and IT leaders focused on SaaS platforms whenever possible to deliver a high level of stability, compliance, security, flexibility, and value to match the needs of the company
- Responsible for teaching and guiding others to be able to accomplish individual tasks, achieve goals and meet expectations
- Leads collaboration cross-functionally in educating and guiding as primary methods of influence. Accountable for teaching others how to lead through influence, and applying influence personally through one or more levels
- Recommend enhancements to applications and opportunities for automation in anticipation of business needs by partnering with Project Managers- Business Analysts to formulate and define the scope or required business case analysis for new capital or operational expenses
- Proactively lead team members in the continuous review and adoption of appropriate integration tools, techniques, and services
- Performs other related activities as needed to support corporate objectives. Acts in the best interest of the company by applying stated corporate values and priorities to all communications, decisions, and actions.
Professional Work Experience
- Solid understanding of the financial and operational challenges and requirements of a public company
- Broad knowledge of the principles of coaching and leading people in a business environment
- Candidates should have at least 5 years of “People Management” experience
- The ideal candidate will possess 15+ years of experience supporting and managing a company’s critical enterprise business systems including large-scale ERP and CRM applications
- In-depth knowledge of broad business management methods, budgeting, reporting, cost-benefit analyses, and complex contract negotiation
- Candidates who have previous experience running ERP systems in multiple countries are preferred.
- Strong knowledge of ERP systems, CRM systems, supply chain management systems, and other enterprise-level software systems
- Ideally, candidates will have 8+ years in a “hands-on” ERP and CRM administrator role
Educational Background:
- Previous Technical Certifications
- ITIL certification
- Leadership Training
- Bachelor’s degree in computer sciences or technical field, Master’s degree a bonus
