Job Description
Nature of Work

This is an executive level position responsible for directing, planning and administering the activities of the Department of Human Services. The incumbent will report to the City Manager or their designee and partners with organizations to address all areas relating to poverty within the City of Miami, including health, education, police community relations, employment, homelessness, veteran affairs and physical and environmental enhancements.
Duties include, but are not limited to: developing and planning department goals and programs to ensure the most cost effective means of service delivery that enhance the quality of life and self-sufficiency of the City of Miami's most underserved, providing recommendations for the allocation of funds to different community partners and/or programs, developing the departmental budget, presenting and reporting on department activities, building relationships with community leaders to better understand the needs of the constituents, attending meetings, participating in the promotion of programs via radio, television, in-person appearances, or other media outlets, in order to educate and inform the public, and performing other related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Extensive eight (8) years) of progressively responsible experience within the fields of community development and/or economic development which must have included considerable four (4) years supervisory experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Urban Planning, Economics, Social Science, or a related field.
OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience beyond a bachelor’s degree in an aforementioned or closely related field.

If degree/diploma does not reflect the academic major on its face, transcripts indicating degree completion must be submitted. Audit/Academic reports are not accepted as substitutions for college transcripts.

Credential evaluation reports showing the United States equivalency for academic credentials earned in other countries may be provided by:
  • A recognized Professional Organization
  • A current member of the Association of International Credential Evaluators (AICE), OR
  • An accredited four-year college or university in the United States, OR
  • A current member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES), OR
