Position Profile: Director of Human Resources


About the Position:


Saint Ignatius High School, a highly successful Jesuit college preparatory school for boys in Cleveland, Ohio, is seeking an experienced Director of Human Resources. In addition to providing a welcoming, customer-service oriented gateway to all of the school’s human resource functions, this position will plan, lead, direct, develop and coordinate the policies and activities of the Human Resources Office. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of organizational development skills along with the patience and understanding required to provide effective employee relations that balance HR compliance with the unique resources and opportunities inherent in our Jesuit mission. This is a full-time, 12-month position, working throughout the calendar year and reports to the Vice President of Administration and Chief Financial Officer.

Primary Areas of Responsibility:


  • Serves as a key communicator and role model of Jesuit ideals and institutional vision.
  • Provide investigative assistance to campuses and departments and coordinate investigations to include, but not limited to, allegations of employee misconduct, discrimination, harassment, and whistleblower complaints for all employees, including substitutes.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to understand the organization’s goals and strategy related to staffing, recruiting and retention.
  • Oversee employee development, training, evaluation and retention strategies.
  • Lead and monitor compliance with the Diocese of Cleveland VIRTUS program, a nationally recognized program to train those who minister, work and volunteer in schools to protect children.
  • Administer human resources programs including, but not limited to recruiting, onboarding, benefits and leave, disciplinary matters, disputes and investigations, performance management, productivity, employee relations, workplace quality and wellness.
  • Plan, lead, develop, coordinate and implement policies, processes, initiatives and surveys to support the school’s human resources compliance and strategy needs, including collaboration with the school’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
  • Counsel and coach employees, supervisors, and the senior leadership team in addressing interpersonal and performance issues.
  • Monitor and ensure the school’s compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations and recommended best practices, review and modify policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Collaborate with various departments to represent the school as an attractive employer.
  • Oversee and manage recruiting functions, including the online applicant tracking system, communicate with applicants, develop and post job announcements, participate in interviews, prepare offer letters, coordinate pre-employment physicals and drug testing, perform background checks, and manage employee onboarding and off-boarding.


Qualifications:


Education, Training and/or Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now preferred
  • PHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification preferred
  • Five years of human resources management experience

About Saint Ignatius High School:


Saint Ignatius High School, which opened its doors on September 6, 1886, is a Jesuit college-preparatory school. The school enrolls more than 1,400 young men who hail from 92 cities in an 11-county region. Located in close proximity to downtown Cleveland in the vibrant and energetic Ohio City neighborhood, the school occupies 23 acres and includes 19 buildings and three athletic fields. The school has 114 faculty members, 89 percent of whom hold advanced degrees. Fifty-six percent have spent 10 years or more teaching at Saint Ignatius.


Saint Ignatius is also home to The Welsh Academy, a middle school for boys from local families of modest economic means, founded in 2019. The Academy enrolls more than 60 boys in grades 6-8 and occupies Kesicki Hall on campus.


Academically, Saint Ignatius is a regional and state leader in National Merit finalists. To challenge students and prepare them for college, the Saint Ignatius curriculum offers 17 Advanced Placement (AP) and 21 honors subjects. In September 2009, the school was designated a Blue Ribbon school by the US Department of Education.
