The Position
The Director of Business Development will be the commercial lead of the laboratory.This role will be responsible for building quotes for potential clients, closing quotes, and working with the laboratory to onboard clients. Additionally, this role will attend trade shows and manage our online presence to promote our capabilities. You will work to identify new revenue opportunities and execute client contracts. A successful candidate will have a deep understanding of food nutritional testing, dietary supplement testing, microbiological food testing and analytical chemistry food testing market so they can execute transactions immediately. They will also be an expert on future investment opportunities within the market and be an integral part of building the laboratory strategic plan.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
- Successfully resolve daily client requests such as results status, invoice requests, report generations, etc.
- Provide recommendations on innovation based on market intelligence to guide in our long-term strategic planning.
- Generate and close new business leads on a regular and reoccurring basis in order to achieve key commercial KPIs and drive overall business growth.
- Deliver forecasting results of sales and achieve monthly/quarterly sales targets.
- Create and deliver sales presentations for internal and external customers.
- Lead our website design and online social media presence to assist in driving more revenue opportunities to the lab by elevating our brand presence in the industry.
- Maintain relationships with clients and act as the voice of the customer to the laboratory.
- Promote testing for a wide range of products such as food, dietary supplements, raw ingredients, environmental samples, and personal care products.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
- Ability to work in a team.
- Ability to work well independently and with a cross-functional team.
- Strong written communication skills and report writing experience.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong understanding of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Google Docs and similar applications.
- Ability to meet deadlines, handle multiple priorities, and take proactive initiative.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
Required Education and Experience
- At least 5 years’ experience in coordinating and administering tasks in an office and/or lab environment.
- 5 years of experience in business development, sales and marketing in the food testing lab industry.
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry or a closely related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Previous food nutritional testing experience.
- US work authorization.
- At least 2 years’ experience preferred with instrumentation such as UHPLC and LC-MS, and analyses such as Vitamins, Amino Acids, Phytonutrients, etc. in a commercial lab setting.
