The Director, Liquidity Assumptions and Analysis provides first line oversight, analysis, monitoring and reporting of liquidity and funding risk for CIBC’s US Region and Combined US Operations (CUSO). The optimal candidate will apply extensive technical expertise to maintain, update, and refine the assumptions used for stress testing, forecasting, and strategic business assessments to ensure the Liquidity risk framework of the US Region is sufficient and meets industry and regulatory standards. This position will own the core Internal Liquidity Stress Testing (ILST), Cash Flow Forecasting (CFF), and liquidity risk assessment of new products.


This is a Director position within US Liquidity Management group that involves provision of technical expertise to limit, monitor and report on liquidity risk of the CUSO. The candidate’s technical expertise and experience in working with senior managers will result in high quality analysis that supports the monitoring and management of the US liquidity risk appetite. The role will lead development and review of the assumptions in CIBC’s US Cash Flow Forecasting and US Liquidity Stress Testing models and manage a team of analysts to execute these model responsibilities.


Within this framework and in a fast paced, high profile environment, the candidate is accountable to:


  • Support resolution of audit deficiencies and other initiatives as required.
  • Support preparation of in depth analysis on liquidity exposures as required and prepare presentations to Management and other forums such as management committees.
  • Serve as the lead subject matter expert on ILST assumptions, scenarios, and risk management.
  • Contribute to the development, testing and implementation of the liquidity models along with other liquidity related initiatives, as required.
  • Participate in projects to improve existing reporting applications and technology designs/processes as required.
  • Assist in liquidity risk analyses and recommendations to support development of Liquidity Measurement & Management, and Contingency Planning strategies.
  • Lead the forecasting process of liquidity metrics and ILST, including managing projection assumptions, documentation, and coordination with lines of business and the financial planning function.
  • Support the implementation of effective process and control, in accordance to internal and external quality standards and requirements for liquidity reporting.
  • Directly manage a team of analysts and partner with other Treasury colleagues across the bank globally to improve the US Liquidity Management practices.
  • Own and maintain the expansive documentation and framework for ILST including the scenario narratives, assumptions book, and historical analysis.


Qualifications


  • Expertise in Excel, proficiency in Word and Power point. Skills in other data tools such as Alteryx, Tableau, and SQL; financial modeling experience a plus.
  • At least 7 to 12 years of work experience in the Financial Services industry, with at least 5 years in a Corporate Treasury orRisk Management function, preferably at a large banking organization subject to Reg YY.
  • Experience directly with Internal Liquidity Stress Testing (ILST), Liquidity Buffer, and/or LCR modelling is a significant plus.
  • Relevant experience with advanced liquidity risk management, banking, capital markets, and enhanced prudential standards for large financial institutions is required
  • Ability to create professional PowerPoint decks to be presented to Senior Management.
  • Successful candidates must exhibit CIBC’s values of trust, team work and accountability.

  • Must have a university degree in Business/Accounting/Finance or related field.
  • Relevant experience, expertise, and comfortability working with data, models, and complex balance sheet products in a spreadsheet and analytic tools.
