Direct Instruction Program Manager
General Description
Health Connected is a cutting-edge social impact organization, which is redefining sex education. We are a leading provider of school-based sexual health education in the Bay Area, serving 18,000+ students and their parents each year. We currently have six published sexual health curricula for 5th-12th graders, with another currently in development. Health Connected has trained teachers and youth providers in sexual health education throughout California and nationally. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Direct Instruction Project Manager will identify opportunities to increase organizational impact and/or improve operational efficiency across the program team, aligned with Health Connected’s strategic plan and grounded in DEIJ practices. This is a versatile, dynamic role that provides insight across multiple functional areas and plays a key role in the operations of the program team in both program administration and capacity building.
Essential Responsibilities
Professional Development
- Collaborate and co-lead educator workshops with the Instructional Services Coordinator
- Support program and performance expectations, monitor the end results, and hold people accountable for strengthening both program and performance.
- Communicate with school and district administrators as needed to maintain strong working relationships
- Visit sites regularly to ensure high quality program implementation and to coach Instructional Services Coordinator and other staff
- Positively represent Health Connected with all external stakeholders and attend meetings as assigned
- Ensure positive relationships between Health Connected staff and stakeholders (e.g., school and district-level personnel, parents, school board members, students, community members, etc.).
Educator Leadership Team
- Serve as the scheduling stand-in while the scheduling manager is out.
- Support a culture of data-driven decision making
- Direct Instruction Program Manager must:
- Lead weekly meetings with the educator leadership team to ensure smooth and effective workflows.
- Value diversity among team members
- Maintain composure in the face of high workload, competing or conflicting demands, ambiguous assignments, interruptions, and distractions.
- Lead cross-functional projects to improve the delivery of the direct instruction program.
- Directly supervise Instructional Services Coordinator and Scheduling Manager and other staff as assigned; support, manage, and evaluate performance.
- Show a high level of care and thoroughness in handling the details of the job.
- Promote cooperation and interaction within teams
Direct Instruction Outreach
- Seek other opportunities and partnerships to expand our footprint in the direct instruction space.
- Identify professional development opportunities for the program team that improve program delivery, support staff well-being, and/or broaden understanding of our field(s) of work.
- Identify and coach emerging organizational leaders to step into pre-leadership roles through scaffolded project management.
- Work closely with the Executive Director and the senior leadership team to launch new program initiatives and oversee complex projects that require interpersonal nuance, anchoring in community context, and project management skills.
- Monitor project progress and provide periodic updates to relevant stakeholders.
- Assess projects on completion to surface learnings and opportunities for collective growth.
- Manage projects from inception to planning to communication through implementation.
- Maintain and build knowledge in current innovations, research, theories, technologies, and trends in health and wellness, education, and youth development.
- Lead programmatic onboarding for new health educators to prepare them for independent course delivery.
- Work with the Director of Evaluation to identify opportunities to apply evaluation learnings to improve programs.
Operations
- Analyze and synthesize data to diagnose problems and strategize solutions
- Support the management of day-to-day operations by setting clear expectations, monitoring end results, and holding people accountable to goal achievement.
- Communicate regularly and fully with educator leadership team and attend required meetings
- Demonstrate effective project and time management skills
- Ensure compliance with risk management and safety protocols
- Develop and utilize program manual to ensure consistent program and operational practices
- Collaborate with Human Resources Manager related to the talent management process and recruitment efforts of full-time and part-time staff
- Forecast staffing demand and requirements and devise strategies to fill needs
Other Responsibilities
- Maintain highest degree of confidentiality in student, staff and management matters
- Complete supervisory responsibilities in a timely and thorough manner
- Supervise, train and develop subordinates in line with the objectives, policies and procedures of the organization
- Participate in community events
- All other duties as assigned
- Implement other plans or management requirements as needed
Education and Experience
- At least 3 years of increasingly responsible positions within the field of education, with at least 1 year of management experience
- Experience in a similar position with another after school provider, desired
- Health Connected experience preferred
- After school and/or district administrative experience a plus
Background Checks/Testing
- Must pass Live Scan (criminal background check via fingerprinting)
- Provide a clear TB test
