Job Description
The Human Rights Foundation (HRF) is seeking highly-qualified applicants for the position of Development Coordinator. New York City-based candidates are preferred, but remote candidates will be considered.

Overview Of The Human Rights Foundation

HRF is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that promotes and protects human rights globally, with a focus on closed societies. Our work includes legal advocacy to free political prisoners, multi-pronged campaigns that expose human rights abuses, world-renowned events such as the Oslo Freedom Forum, original research on human rights and authoritarianism, and direct support for at-risk dissidents and human rights defenders. HRF unites people in the common cause of defending human rights and promoting liberal democracy. Our mission is to ensure that freedom is both preserved and promoted around the world.

Overview Of The Position

The Development Coordinator will support the fundraising efforts of HRF’s development team by managing administrative tasks and assisting with donor stewardship, prospecting, grant management, research, and event planning. This position reports to the Chief Strategy Officer and the Senior Development Officer.

To Apply

Please submit your application via Idealist with your 1) resume, 2) cover letter, and 3) completed questionnaire. Cover letters may be addressed to Sherry Jeng, Senior Development Officer. Please be sure to include all three elements of your application; incomplete applications will not be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Help coordinate development projects such as direct mailings, donation campaigns, and the creation of marketing materials
  • Support fundraising efforts by organizing meetings and handling follow-up requests
  • Coordinate projects across multiple teams
  • Assist with special projects, which include planning and coordinating donor engagement opportunities, contributing to donor stewardship plans, and organizing events, including the Oslo Freedom Forum conference series
  • Assist in tracking relationships with all donors (individuals, foundations, and corporations) and recording updates in the CRM database
  • Work with the development team to carry out donor stewardship, including gift acknowledgments, email updates, direct mailings, and event invitations, for HRF’s donor base
  • Prepare grant proposals, assist with grant reports, and research assignments on prospective funding opportunities
  • Handle administrative tasks, including donation reports, timekeeping, correspondence, calendar scheduling, and travel arrangements
  • Work with the development and digital team to ensure that the donation process is straightforward for donors and potential donors
  • Maintain accuracy and integrity of the CRM database by regularly checking that all information is current and up to date

Requirements

  • Self-motivated team player with a high sense of urgency and ability to handle multiple projects at once
  • 1-4 years of relevant experience suggested
  • Computer proficiency required; some database experience preferred (particularly with donation CRMs)
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • An understanding of and affinity for HRF’s mission
  • Ability to handle sensitive/confidential information and be discreet
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and a friendly, professional demeanor
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to organize information in a coherent way
  • Outstanding organizational and communication skills

Salary And Benefits

HRF offers a competitive, negotiable salary of $55-65,000 (commensurate with experience) and benefits package including fully covered medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, a generous PTO plan and company-paid holiday schedule, and many other voluntary benefits.
