The Opportunity

This position is an onsite opportunity in the Abbott Diabetes Care Division. We are helping people with Diabetes lead healthier, happier lives. Consistent and accurate glucose monitoring is the foundation of any diabetes management plan, so we’re committed to continuous improvement in the way patients and professionals measure, track and analyze glucose levels.

As a Design Production Artist, you will be responsible for preparing labeling files and technical documentation for pre-market and on-market assay kits and accessories. Label types include: manuals (print and digital), package inserts, kit labels, vial labels, troubleshooting guides, quick reference guides. This job position will help ensure that project deadlines for label creation can be met in a timely manner, while maintaining consistent high quality output according to corporate and production standards within label creation and content management software. This is an individual contributor position onsite in Alameda, CA.

The department is comprised of 30-40 staff members reporting into a manager. The department is a part of global organization responsible for English label creation and translation.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Support department with other graphic production work, including but not limited to converting software file formats, provide labeling mechanicals, prepare
  • Review and revise content authored in DITA XML
  • Prototypes etc.
  • Partners closely with project coordinator/project manager and cross functional team to produce labeling files, with all specifications needed for print and digital, delivering combponenets on time and on budget.
  • Participate in department initiatives to assess and improve internal workflows
  • Provide graphic production support for a variety of packaging and labeling projects including print and digital mediums.
  • Develop templates, symbols, and graphics for labeling attributes
  • Routine Tasks: Prepare electronic layout design files
  • Proofread label files against redlines and implement changes.
  • Independent Professional Development: Stay current on print standards, web publishing applications, and best practices used in regulated industries.
  • Coordinate and manage the maintenance of production files and image library
  • Review and revise content authored in DITA XML

Experience You'll Bring

Required:

  • Computer literacy with PC
  • Bachelors Degree (BFA/BA), or an equivalent combination of work experience and education in lieu of degree.
  • Requires at least 4 years of relevant work experience, such as graphic production, design, packaging etc.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of printing standards and methods of prepress production.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem solving skills
  • Project management skills in an environment with strict deadlines.
  • Experienced producing packaging and labeling artwork, preferably in consumer or medical packaged goods.
  • Understanding of legal issues involved in packaging: trademarks, copyrights, etc. useful.
  • Strong organizational skills, excellent time management skills,, works with a sense of urgency and ownership
  • Accuracy, attention to detail, and strong proofreading skills a must.
  • Knowledgeable in a variety of digital, print materials and methods.
  • Understanding of regulatory issues and labeling requirements for medical device products useful.
  • Proficient in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Acrobat. Experience with DITA XML, HTML, and CSS is a plus.
