Design Assistant - Cad

Our client, a well-known retailer, is looking for a Design Assistant to join their team in NYC. The Design Assistant supports the Designer(s) in the seasonal design CAD development process, from concept to finished artwork, by contributing original, trend-appropriate designs in the form of CAD artwork that meets market needs. This Entry level role is a hybrid position.
Responsibilities:

• Track design schedule to ensure timely execution of product development calendar
• Assist in development of prints in the form of Cad artwork able to be sent to mills for Strike off and bulk execution.
• Support Designer(s) in creating Illustrator sketches; assist in preparation of specification sheets; prepare designs for line review; and update as necessary
• Follow-up with internal customers and partners including technical design and production; facilitate interoffice communication
• Review artwork with Designer(s) and Senior Designer(s); coordinate print and graphics where appropriate.
• Build collaborative relationships with vendors and internal customers
• Assist and take direction from Designer(s) and Senior Designer(s) for preliminary design research, develop concepts, assemble presentation boards for meetings, prepare mock-ups, color-ups
• Contribute positively to team dynamic and manage up where necessary

Qualifications:

• Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines; highly detail oriented, meticulous and creative
• Must have excellent knowledge of print repeat and screen separation concepts. Must have ability to take design concept and develop into workable prints in repeat and Yarn Dye Plaids for apparel
• Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe products and PC computers; knowledge of CAD a must
• 1-3 years related experience and/or training in apparel
• Must have excellent color sensibility as it applies to print work, plaids as it applies to the overall line development.
• Must have working knowledge of Cad Programs such as Kaledo or other print software that is workable for this assignment
• Superior organizational skills and excellent communication skills; team oriented
