The Organization


  • We’re a U.S.-based nonprofit currently working in Mozambique, Northern Kenya and Peru (and growing).

The Position

This position will be full time (40 hours/week). The Deputy Chief of Staff will work both independently and collaboratively with local and international teams. The position will be as follows: organizational support (55%) strategy and development (30%), operations (25%) and a suite of unicorn-like abilities to catalyze legacy to create Thriving Futures (100%). Note this role has scope to grow to Chief of Staff and/or Director of Operations in the first 6-12 months.

  • The ability to work efficiently and effectively and help teams get projects over the finish line

Experience Requirements

The ideal candidate has a selection of the following in that they meet at least one, and ideally more than one, of the following criteria:

  • A minimum of 5 years in fundraising and communications in social impact organizations
  • A minimum of 5 years in leadership roles and experience managing remote, culturally diverse teams
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in the development and/or conservation sectors with a preference for a background in social change organizations


In addition, all candidates should have:

  • Impact-driven with capabilities to communicate impact to different levels of stakeholders
  • 5-10 years of progressive responsibility during which candidate demonstrated a high degree of initiative and experience being a generator of projects and programs
  • Education in a relevant field with a preference for an advanced degree
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally, as needed, to help drive Legado’s work and partnerships
  • Robust experience in organization financial management and budgeting to manage multiple programs into an institutional budget across 20 staff and $1.5 million operating budget.
  • Fluency in English; fluency or proficiency in Spanish and Portuguese is highly desired
  • Deep experience cultivating and stewarding partnerships and donors alongside formal and informal grant and proposal writing


Salary

Annual salary will be commensurate with experience and range from $50,000-75,000 with benefits including medical, life, disability, and 401K.


Location

The Deputy Chief of Staff will be based at a home office and must be available to work on US Central or Eastern time (GMT-4 or GMT-5) in addition to meetings and coordination with Legado’s global team (there is some flexibility on meeting times). Work on some weekends or evenings may occasionally be required to help monitor program activities or coordinate with partners. There may be opportunities to travel to events in the US and to program sites in Kenya, Mozambique, Peru and others.
