Custodian - Bob Gilbertson Central City Family Ymca

Under the direction of the Facilities Director and Executive Director, the Custodian must provide a clean and safe environment to ensure the comfort and pleasure of YMCA patrons by performing general janitorial duties throughout the facility. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• The work is performed both indoors and out, and may require travel to various locations.
• While performing the duties of this job the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
• Must be able to bend, reach, crawl into various areas and climb a ladder in order to properly clean the facility
• Practice appropriate safety recommendations when handling chemicals and equipment. Job functions include floor maintenance, dusting, bathroom cleaning, disinfecting all areas of the building and waste/garbage removal.
• Ensures the safety and cleanliness of the facility, including but not limited to, clearing walkways and obstacles throughout the facility.
• Must be able to work as part of a team as well as independently, exercising sound judgment and decision-making. Certifications/Trainings Required:
• Communicate with the Property Director or manager regarding potential hazards, concerns, or incidents that may need follow-up based on circumstances.
• Perform additional functions or assume additional responsibilities as needed or as requested by the department director or supervisor. Education/ Experience Required:
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Ability to work in a variety of environments, specifically those subject to extreme humidity/dampness, heat and cold.
• Must be able to work in non-climate controlled areas, outside in direct and indirect sunlight for extended periods of time, in muggy, hot and humid conditions.
• Must be 18 years or older.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate or high. This position may require availability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds
• Maintain other required certifications as stated in the training matrix. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job including, but not limited to:
• Must obtain within 30 days of employment and maintain current certifications in CPR and First Aid.
• Suggests and initiates actions to improve facility appearance and cleanliness.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to: climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand for an extended period of time, climb ladders, walk, shovel, plow, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear and have visual acuity.
