Purpose
The Criminal Records Specialist position for the University of Texas at Austin Police Department (UTPD) is assigned to the Records and Analysis Section (RAS) of the department. The Duties and Responsibilities of each aspect of the position are detailed below.
Responsibilities
  • Weekly Court Run
  • Collect, collate, analyze, disseminate, evaluate crime data and create reports to identify trends, patterns, and changes in criminal activity; Forecast criminal trends; Produce heat maps to display criminal activity geographically throughout the University of Texas at Austin campuses; Facilitate the transfer of crime information between analysts, units, sections, and divisions of the University Police Department
  • Daily upkeep of Daily Records Review, document tracking, error logs, and report corrections
  • Ability to work non-standard hours as required by the department
  • Greet visitors at the front window and assist with connecting them with the correct department, processing their requests, answering their questions, and/or providing the correct contact information and instructions to best suit their needs if applicable in a positive and professional manner.
  • Distribution of department mail as requested
  • Maintain confidentiality, work with restricted information, and be able to be screened or cleared to work with or have access to sensitive or confidential information
  • Front-line quality control check as handled through the Daily Records Review.
  • Process incoming subpoenas, citations, and expunctions in accordance with UTPD and Travis County guidelines and timelines
  • Support official department events in all capacities, act as a backup to other admin positions, coordinate with front lobby administrative for lunch coverage
  • Review all offense and incident reports; Prepare paper and electronic copies of offense and incident reports for dissemination to courts, state agencies, and other campus departments.
  • Other related duties as assigned
  • Prepare a variety of reports and presentations on crime information, monthly and quarterly reports, department annual reports, and specific statistical/research reports as needed; Present information in a professional and timely manner to police executives, leadership, and other groups on a regular basis as requested
Required Qualifications
Bachelors in Criminal Justice, Business, Public Administration, a social science, or a related field. Five years of experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Four years of experience performing data analysis. Data entry/database management skills sufficient to accurately enter data, maintain database, and effectively retrieve information from multiple databases. English language skills are sufficient to be able to speak, read, write, understand, and respond to written and spoken communications.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working within law enforcement databases. Experience with data analysis, data visualization, and presentation. Experience working with Tableau, CA+, and QGIS a plus.
Driving Required
This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.
Salary Range
$44,000 + depending on qualifications

Employment Eligibility:
