As a country manager, you will be an experienced leader overseeing the operations of the Starbucks Farmer Support Center, Costa Rica, and our Hacienda Alsacia farm. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of diverse professionals in achieving high levels of performance while adhering to company values, all while being the main point of contact and representative of Starbucks Coffee Company in Costa Rica. The country manager will provide strategic direction, manage budgets and resources, and collaborate with other leaders across the organization to ensure that the Farmer Support Center and Hacienda Alsacia coffee farm meet or exceed their strategic plan and initiatives.


As a country manager for the Farmer Support Center in Costa Rica, you will

  • Support the strategic vision of Starbucks Coffee Company as the country leader amongst the external industry, and act as the representative and liaison for the farm and Starbucks in Costa Rica.
  • Manage budgets, resources, and timelines to ensure that the Farmer Support Center and Hacienda Alsacia coffee farm operate effectively and efficiently.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and initiatives, adjusting as needed to ensure optimal results.
  • Collaborate with other leaders across the organization to align initiatives with overall business objectives and values.
  • Lead and manage a team of diverse professionals to ensure elevated levels of performance, engagement, and collaboration.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, policies, and procedures, including those related to environmental, health, and safety standards, both external and internal
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for the Farmer Support Center and Hacienda Alsacia coffee farm that aligns with overall business objectives, sustainability goals and values.
  • Actively seek out opportunities to communicate with internal and external stakeholders at all levels and listen to their concerns, feedback, and suggestions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including local communities, suppliers, and government agencies.
  • Foster a culture of respect, fairness, and inclusivity, ensuring that team members feel valued, supported, and motivated, role modeling Starbucks Mission and Values

Proactively foster partnership opportunities, both internal and external. Ability to build a level of trust and respect amongst peer groups and recognizes the importance of solid relationships.
  • Demonstrated expertise in coffee agriculture, supply chain management, sustainability, or related fields.
  • Project and process management skills: Ability to manage independently time and budget effectively, including balancing multiple priorities to meet deadlines. Ability to identify or implement systems and processes improvements.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: must have the ability to understand and navigate cultural differences, being open minded and embracing diversity.
  • Fully bilingual English Spanish is must, additional French or Portuguese is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as agriculture, business, or management. A master's degree is preferred.
  • At least 8 years of experience in a leadership role, with a proven record of accomplishment of driving high performance in a complex, matrixed, and dynamic environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify and address complex challenges and opportunities.
  • Business and financial acumen: Strong understanding of coffee industry and its challenges, trends, and opportunities. Strong analytical and measurement/tracking skills. Conduct analysis and present data and findings clearly, concisely, and accurately. Be able to draw meaningful conclusions, indicate actions, and set performance benchmarks.
  • Good communicator: Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to confidently present objectives and desired outcomes to leadership and cross functional teams. Consistently demonstrates communication and presentation skills to influence outcomes.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with team members and other stakeholders.
