Urban Designer Jobs

We are seeking a collaborative Urban Designer with 1-3 years of experience to join Mithun. As a part of our interdisciplinary team, you will help move the needle on resilient urbanism and equitable growth, contributing to a range of projects. They will range in scale across community, corridor, public realm and district plans – with a focus on design and implementation. Some examples include transit-oriented, sustainable urban development; mixed-use projects; infrastructure and public realm design. We collaborate in the office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Mondays and Fridays are flexible workdays that allow employees to work in the office or from home.

Requirements

• Perform design studies to support the team developing concept and framework plans.
• Develop analytical and design graphics.
• Contribute to the preparation of design documentation and client materials.
• Coordinate input and produce revisions to drawings, project deliverables, and materials.
• Participate in community engagement workshops and charrettes.
• Support urban design projects and contribute to the success of an interdisciplinary design team through data gathering, research, analysis and providing creative support and assistance throughout the design process.
• Provide attention to varied needs for private, public, institutional and non-profit clients.
• Communicate urban design concepts effectively to diverse stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Understanding of systems thinking.
• Bachelor's or master's degree in urban planning, urban design, landscape architecture or architecture.
• 3D modelling and parametric design software skills.
• 1-3 years of relevant architecture or urban design professional experience.
• Demonstrated experience preparing presentation materials, reports, research and analyses.
• Solid communication and time management skills.
• Demonstrated experience working at the district scale (e.g., 10+ acres).
• Proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.), Rhino, SketchUp, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.) and GIS.

Nice-to-haves (but not required)

• Post-graduate professional experience is highly desirable.
• Experience with community engagement.
• Proficiency with Revit.
• Actively engaged with professional organizations such as APA, AIA, ASLA, and ULI.

Mithun offers medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, paid parental leave, transit benefits, a 401(k) retirement plan and discretionary bonus opportunity based on firm profitability and individual performance. Flexible Spending Accounts or Health Savings Accounts are available based on eligibility requirements. Paid time off includes eight holidays and vacation accrual of two weeks per year. The expected range of compensation for this role is $60,000 to $69,000 per year. Pay ranges differ by location.
