Job Description
Summary: The Communications Coordinator writes marketing materials and assists the Communications Manager in media relations and public relations projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
SLAM communication
  • Collaborate with the entire Marketing and Communications team on the development of social media posts and other digital content.
  • Provide Museum information to online community events calendars, and to external arts and community websites.
  • Assist the Communications Manager in the development of communications plans for upcoming exhibitions and major initiatives.
Media relations
  • Assist the Communication Manager in the development and deployment of press releases and other press materials.
  • Provide logistical support and supervision for in-gallery photo and video shoots by visiting members of the press.
  • Coordinate planning and assist in the execution of press previews and other media events.
  • Assist the Communications Manager in developing and maintaining lists of local, regional, national and international media and arts bloggers and influencers.
  • Compile media clips and send weekly reports as needed.
Other duties
  • Serve on select Museum project teams as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, communication, project-management, and organizational skills; strong writing, copywriting, and proofreading skills; and the ability to execute multiple tasks, often simultaneously, while maintaining deadlines and high professional standards.
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, public relations, marketing or related area, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Experience in writing for news or public relations and familiarity with AP Style required.
  • Familiarity with Excel, Photoshop, WordPress, and desktop publishing software preferred.
  • Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
Additional Details:
Minimum of Hiring Range: $23.36 per hour
Status: Regular full-time, Benefits eligible on first day of employment.
