Salary
Salary Range: $45,000 - $59,000 annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.
Hours per Week
Exempt Position: 40 hours per week.

Essential Functions
Function:
To provide professional skills in developing and producing written and other materials that directly address important and diverse priorities of the college including student and faculty success, research, and academic innovation.
Scope:
Responsible for creating written materials and graphics for internal and external audiences.
Typical:
  • Creates, develops and manages print and electronic projects; serves as the project manager, editor and principal writer.
  • Writes and edits copy.
  • Modifies content for websites in accordance with best practice and as applicable.
  • Serves as a liaison with communications staff; collaborates on institutional projects with COEHD staff and faculty.
  • Produces written and media content for various purposes that include recruitment and marketing.
  • Works with college leadership to design a coherent communications strategy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Periodic:
  • Attends meetings; serves on committees.


Required Qualifications
  • Criminal Background Check (CBC).
  • Ability to multi-task and work in an organized and effective manner in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Strong interpersonal communications skills with individuals of varied backgrounds and cultures.
  • Additional education/experience may substitute for experience/education on a one for one basis.
  • Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills; able to adjust writing style to the intended audience.
  • Three years of professional writing and/or editing experience in communications, public relations, marketing, advertising, development, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of standard concepts, practices and procedures in writing for print and electronic media.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Five years of experience in higher education or with a non-profit organization.
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field from an accredited institution.

Working Conditions
  • Normal office conditions.
  • This position will be primarily located on the UTSA Main Campus and/or Downtown Campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility. Applicants must be adaptable and open to working in both in-person and remote/hybrid environments.
  • Occasional evening and weekend hours depending on college events.
