Job Description

Role Summary:
The goal of the CDI (Clinical Documentation Improvement) Program is to clarify ambiguous, conflicting, or incomplete documentation. The CDI Specialist works to facilitate the overall quality and completeness of clinical documentation to represent the severity, acuity, and risk of mortality profile of the patient being treated accurately. The CDI professional achieves these goals through careful review of all of the information and documentation available concurrently for patient encounters. Focused communication with the treating clinical professionals will be utilized to obtain improvements in documentation.
Your Key Responsibilities:
  • Work with HIMs, Revenue Cycle, and Operational Leadership to address incomplete or delayed completion of documentation for services provided.
  • Develops and monitors strategic operating goals, objectives and budget; and reports operational performance, justification and/or corrective action.
  • Ensures clinical documentation, including modifications, accurately reflect the level of service rendered (in compliance with government and other regulations) for all patients.
  • Work with physician leadership to develop education and training for onboarding of new and existing providers.
  • Develop and implement of educational content that provides guidance on changes/updates to regulatory requirements for clinical documentation.
  • Collaborate with Compliance Auditing Team to develop and implement education for providers based on risk areas identified through formal auditing.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Expertise in reviewing medical documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Current CPC credentials.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • A sound knowledge of medical coding guidelines and regulations, including compliance and reimbursement.
  • Excellent organizational communication skills.
  • Thorough understanding anatomy, pathophysiology, and medical terminology necessary to correctly assign codes using the CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS Level II Coding Systems.
  • Proficiency in with EMR software and templates.
  • The ability to identify and communication documentation deficiencies to clinical staff and providers.
  • Certified Documentation Expert Outpatient (CDEO), or willingness to obtain within 6 months.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in audit or coding
  • Current, unrestricted RN License
