Clinical Director


Job Title: Clinical Director

Department: Physical/Occupational Therapy

Reports To: President/Director of Operations


Under the general direction of the President this position has responsibility for providing physical therapy clinical services and is responsible for leading a team of medical professionals to administer excellent patient care to Rehab Specialists Inc. (“RSI”) patients in multiple RSI locations. Supervises Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants and Aides. Responsibilities include the diagnosis and treatment of individuals who have medical issues or other health-related conditions that limit their ability to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives. Duties include assisting in hiring Physical Therapists depending on their facilities needs, managing the schedule and ensuring supplies and equipment are adequate in the facility. The Clinical Directors (and/or the Physical Therapists they manage) will examine each designated RSI patient and develop a plan using treatment techniques to promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability. Duties also include maintaining professional and technical knowledge through continuing education. The Clinical Director is responsible for delivery of quality physical therapy services to RSI patients in accordance with established RSI organizational policies and procedures as well all applicable regulatory/compliance requirements. This list of job duties and responsibilities is not exclusive and is subject to periodic revision and amendment as the needs of RSI change or evolve. This is a full-time, exempt position, with weekday scheduling from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and some weekend scheduling required.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Ensure all PT, OT, PT assistant, PTLA, student, and Aide notes are reviewed and “closed” in WebPt platform so that billing process can be efficiently performed.
  • In partnership with Office Managers, Clinical Directors are tasked with managing and supervising the operations, efficiency and productivity of the applicable clinic/office they are assigned.
  • Assist with recruitment of new PTs and PTA’S to maximize business revenue and patient care.
  • Manage PT staff according to RSI management direction (e.g. five 8-hour shifts per week vs four 10-hour shifts) so that there is appropriate staff coverage and patient appointments are not canceled or rescheduled unnecessarily.
  • Perform annual PT, PT Assistants and Aide reviews in partnership with HR to provide feedback on performance and help motivate employee dedication and morale.
  • Supervises PTs, PT assistants, students, aides, volunteers on a day-to-day basis.
  • Wholly responsible for all patient assessments and administering of patient care.
  • Demonstrates internal and external customer service and professional behavior, in accordance with RSI’s Principles of Responsibility.
  • Inservices/Lunch and Learn
  • Responsible for PT staffing and maximizing clinic schedule - filling schedule as effectively as possible. Productivity for all clinicians should be 88%-92% or above
  • Upholds RSI Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws.
  • Along with PTs, establishes a plan of care for each patient to achieve established goals relative to age, medical history and diagnosis.
  • Proactively reach out to Doctors/Physicians to increase referrals and patient flow.
  • Demonstrates professional competence and clinical reasoning in assessing a patient's condition at the onset and through all phases of physical therapy.

  • Administration when the office manager is not available

Qualifications/Certifications/Requirements

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Current California Physical Therapist license
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, patient families and staff.
  • Completion of an accredited PT training program with a Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy.
  • Ability to multi-task in a high-pressure environment.
  • National Provider Identifier (NPI) required prior to the first day of employment.
  • Commitment to maintaining the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Approved current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification prior to first day of employment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Tact, compassion, patience and flexibility.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Member APTA.
  • Women's health and pelvic floor skill set preferred.
  • Previous private practice experience in physical therapy clinical practice preferred.
  • Team player.
  • Good communication skills.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work a standard 8-hour schedule.
  • Adequate hearing and vision (with or without correction).
  • Ability to physically stabilize fall-risk patients and “catch” patients in the event of fall.
  • Ability to transfer and lift patients of varying size, with and without the assistance of a PT aide.
  • Ability to carry out body massage, traction, application of physical agents, administration of and assistance with manual exercise and bodily manipulations and other physical duties as needed.
  • Ability to stand for 90% of the standard 8-hour schedule.
