About the role

Our CEO loves guiding people, but will provide you with a lot of autonomy. You’ll need to be adaptable, and come in with ideas, suggestions, and the attitude that you’re willing to try just about anything. In an agile executive team like ours, we adapt to changing internal and external needs rapidly, we’re humble learners and nothing is “not your job.” Our environment at embark is dynamic, so you’ll also need to be flexible and respond to change quickly as we grow.

You’ll need to be an energetic, positive, rapid fire leader who can manage a lot of strong personalities and hold this high functioning sales team accountable to our annual and quarterly goals set by our board of directors. We expect you to challenge the status quo and not do things “the way they’ve always been done”.


What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the CEO, you will join the C-team in establishing the strategic direction of the sales organization for a firm that has doubled annual revenue 5 out of the last 6 years. You’ll collaborate with the CFO, CPO, CXO, CTO, CMO and CIO to design and implement a strategy that ultimately achieves our $1 billion revenue target in the next three years. You'll be responsible for the overall success of our sales organization, leading them and providing a vision they can rally around. You’ll coach/manage and develop our sales team, which includes our 30+ sales representatives and sales operation team (support, training and analytics). You’ll work with our head of strategy in identifying new business opportunities and potential markets to expand the company's customer base. You’ll ensure our sales team establishes and maintains strong relationships with embark’s clients, partners, and stakeholders. You’ll work closely with both our clients, our Managing Directors and our Embark team to achieve our ultimate goal of building a world class sales organization that will attract top talent from all industries.


To be a good fit for the Chief Sales Officer role you will have:

  • Strong planning and accountability skills as you establish sales quotas, compensation plans and improve overall sales process
  • A high sense of urgency, strong initiative and the ability to multitask
  • A fire, passion and drive for excellence
  • A positive attitude with a high energy level to motivate, inspire and manage 40, growing to 80, sales reps and the sales support team
  • 7+ years of sales leadership experience
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and evolving business environment
  • Deep understanding of the professional services industry, including knowledge of market trends, competitors, and customer needs
  • Confidence in selling to C suites and teaching others what success looks like
  • 15+ years of sales experience in software/technology, professional services or Big 4/public accounting
  • Excellent sales and negotiation skills with a track record of exceeding revenue targets
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills to develop innovative sales approaches and overcome challenges
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal
  • A builder’s mentality, with a growth mindset
  • Consistent leadership track record
  • Strong business acumen and financial literacy to understand the financial implications of sales decisions from our client’s perspective (CFO, CAO, VP Finance & Accounting)
  • Strong knowledge in enterprise sales process
