Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Chief Information Officer #1864


Reporting to the Chief of Staff, is responsible for all Information Technology (IT) at the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). This position is responsible for managing both the Technology Support & Infrastructure and Software Solutions departments.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assesses risks and implements controls to ensure systems and associated data maintained is secure.
  • Manages security of information technology.
  • Responsible for management of Technology Support & Infrastructure and Software Solutions departments.
  • Ensure internal and external user needs are being met.
  • Works with agency leadership to develop strategy, determine priorities, define projects, and develop technology roadmaps to effectively support agency operations.
  • Oversees implementation and integration of agency computer system and software applications.
  • Communicates technology needs to senior leadership.
  • Oversees and develops the information technology budget.
  • Performs administrative duties associated with procurement.
  • Recommends system and application upgrades as needed.
  • Troubleshoots and finds solutions for technology issues as they arise.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for the oversight of all IT functions at ISBE to ensure the operations are effectively managed with the Agency’s mission, vision, and goals.


Required Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of IT.
  • Five years of IT management.
  • Master’s degree, or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology (IT) or Computer Science plus five years of experience in IT management in the last seven years, or, a Bachelor’s degree in any field plus seven years of experience in IT management in the last ten years. (COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION)
