SME is an award-winning professional consulting engineering firm. Our team of experienced, responsive problem solvers provide practical and sustainable solutions for our clients as we work to build and revitalize our world.
To better serve our team members and clients, we are looking for a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to join and strengthen our team.
Our projects range from building erection reviews to fabrication shops and field maintenance reviews for highway structures. We have a wide range of clients, but our primary areas are buildings (D1.1) and DOT (D1.1 or D1.5). Depending on the location, our positions can range from daily travel between local jobsites to assessing lighting or sign structures on the highway.
Description of Position Responsibilities
Reviewing bolted and welded structural connections for buildings, fabrication shop inspections, and additional specialty reviews. Occasionally assisting with coatings or other testing as needed to support other services groups within SME.
Technical Skills Required
- Capable of working from ladders, swing stages, aerial lifts, and at heights, walking steel following 100 percent tie off requirements, using appropriate fall protection equipment, and operating aerial lifts.
- Is comfortable using a computer and smart phone.
- Able to successfully pass security background checks and drug screenings required by clients.
- A current American Welding Society (AWS) CWI certification, or ability to obtain with 6 months of hire.
- A good safety and driving record.
- Preferred but not required: Knowledge and/or certifications associated with nondestructive testing (UTT, UT, MT, PT), structural bolting, bridges, tanks, piping, and coatings inspection. Experienced with email, calendar, and Microsoft office computer programs and phone apps.
