The Central Scheduler is responsible for scheduling, interviewing and when applicable, pre-registering all patients utilizing the Health System services. This includes entering the appropriate diagnostic testing order and demographic information into the hospital information system to facilitate patient care and hospital billing procedures.
They will also act as a liaison for patients with questions regarding their insurance coverage, preparations, or general questions. The incumbent also performs clerical duties assigned by and under the direct supervision of the department leadership.
Performs duties in support of the Health System’s mission to ensure the highest quality of patient care in an economically sound and efficient manner. The age range of patient population serves: newborn through adult, geriatric.
Requirements:Duties and Responsibilities:
- Use, protect and disclose patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards
- Meets and maintains daily productivity/quality standards established in departmental policies
- Meets and maintains quality standards established in departmental policies
- Check medical necessity, validate insurance information include benefits, eligibility, authorization and referral requirements.
- Maintains a professional attitude
- Promotes positive interactions with co-workers, patients and guests
- Maintains the flow of communication on within the unit, including answering the telephone and providing information and directions for patients and other guests
- Oversees scheduling functions for all scheduled department procedures in the out-patient setting – patient intake: insurance verification, notification of copay/patient liability and confirmation of demographics
- Educate patients on their financial responsibility as well as collecting point of service cash.
- Enters and retrieves computer data in an accurate and timely manner
- Helps to ensure that patients flow through the scheduling and registration systems as quickly and efficiently as possible, while also ensuring all fiscal procedures are followed in a consistent manner.
- Answering all calls identifying oneself and using the departmental greeting/closure scripting
- Scheduling patient appointment for medical procedures – schedules procedures via the hospital information system following established protocols that promote physician satisfaction and scheduling efficiencies. Coordinates STAT scheduling appointments directly with technologist
- Communicate effectively with team(s) in the facility and patients
Qualifications:
- Patient scheduling – 1 year (preferred)
- Insurance verification - 1 year (preferred)
- Experience with financial clearance
- Strong organizational skills
- Work independently
- Ability to make decisions and work independently
- Experience with individual payor websites including: eviCore, Availity, Navinet,
- Experience with but not limited to: Cerner Scheduling
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Ability to work well individually and in a team environment
- Knowledge of medical procedures, CPT codes, for medical clearance
