Job Description
The CARE advocate provides confidential and privileged advice, assistance and advocacy to students who are victims of sexual assault, dating and domestic violence, and stalking. Supports diverse students in pursuing avenues of healing and justice.
Serves as advocate in the student conduct process for victims of sexual misconduct, sexual harassment, dating and domestic violence, and stalking, providing student conduct process orientation, case status and disposition notification, and hearing support. Provides criminal justice system orientation and court support, and assistance in filing for state compensation under the Victim of Violent Crimes Act.
Facilitates referrals for psychological and emotional needs resulting from the trauma of assault, transferring students into therapy and psychiatric care on and off campus as needed. Advocacy also includes assistance in coordinating accommodations and services with campus departments and local agencies including UCPD on behalf of the student in all areas, including Student Services/University services, coordination of legal advocacy, medical advocacy and other assistance as needed.
Responsible for developing, implementing, and managing a case management system to coordinate, facilitate, and monitor programs and services available to distressed students.
Working collaboratively with the CARE Prevention Team, participates in educational outreach services to diverse University populations.

Required/Preferred
A qualified psychotherapist with a master's degree in counseling or has one year of counseling with six months rape crisis experience preferred.
Required
California Certification for Sexual Assault Crisis Counselor Training required. Must have 40 hours of state mandated sexual assault training.

California Certification for Domestic Violence Advocates required.
Required
Must be able to provide services, advocacy and crisis intervention during non-business hours as appropriate.

Must be able to maintain confidentiality within the bounds of applicable laws and regulations.

Ability to work with individuals who have experienced a sexual or domestic violence issue required.

Ability to handle difficult decisions when university policy is ambiguous, there is latitude for usage of judgment or the client's reaction to advocacy methods may be less predictable

Able to effectively use independent judgment and make professional decisions and recommendations in situations that require highly individualized planning in effectively advocating for the complainant.

Demonstrated ability to work with people of various ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, sexual orientation and gender identities.

Advanced experience in speaking in front of diverse audiences and the ability to adapt materials quickly so that the audience can understand the concepts being presented.

Exercises mature professional judgment and the flexible use of a wide range of advocacy skills.

Advanced skills in assessing levels of emotional distress and reacting appropriately.

Strong ability to work effectively within and outside of the university system in developing relationships and programs to address programmatic issues and needs.

Bachelor's degree in social work, counseling or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

In depth experience with computer programs used in the university such as word, excel, PowerPoint, case tracking systems and other key programs necessary to perform the requirements of the position.
