POSITION OVERVIEW:


As a member of the Human Resources team, the Benefits Associate will be responsible for assisting and supporting the Human Resources department in a variety of manners. Main responsibilities include supporting day to day benefit and leave administration, maintaining KIPP DC’s Human Resource Information System (HRIS), and collaborating with other Talent teams on cross-functional projects. The Benefits Associate works closely with various departments, including Payroll. This is an exempt position and will report to the Associate Director of Benefits and Compensation.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Benefits Administration Support - 45%


  • Enroll and make changes to employee benefit enrollments as necessary
  • Support other responsibilities and projects, as needed
  • Partner with the Benefits Manager on benefit reconciliation including invoices, employee deductions, etc.
  • Liaise with payroll team on benefit related issues
  • Partner with benefit vendors on escalated employee concerns and questions
  • Support and present benefits information in new hire orientation
  • Submit changes to payroll in a timely manner as needed
  • Partner with the HR Customer Service team on benefits related issues/concerns.
  • Updating and maintaining the benefits website
  • Manage and respond to benefit and leave inquiries in HR support inbox (Zendesk)
  • Support with open enrollment


Leave Administration Support - 35%


  • Support KIPP DC wellness initiatives and programs
  • Partner with HR Manager (Benefits) as it relates to employees on leave
  • Be an additional point of contact for employees requesting leave including sending paperwork and creating leave calendars
  • Submit workers compensation claims
  • Support other responsibilities and projects, as needed


Auditing and Compliance - 20%


  • Proactively engage in other information vetting processes as needed
  • Reconcile benefit invoices
  • Support the periodic auditing of benefits and 403b related data
  • Maintain and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Assist with compliance and internal audits
  • Support with job description management


Qualifications


REQUIREMENTS:


  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • One to two years of relevant human resources experience required
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability of work product
  • Experience with Workday or other HRIS platforms preferred
  • Flexibility, with a strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit to accommodate a high level of responsibility and multiple priorities
  • Proactive to identify problems and come up with solutions
  • Outstanding organizational skills and extraordinary attention to detail
  • Strong judgment and decision-making skills
  • Articulate, professional demeanor with strong self-confidence, initiative, and leadership skills
  • Unquestioned integrity and commitment to KIPP DC’s mission
  • Proficiency with Google Suite and Microsoft Office (e.g. Excel) preferred
  • Results-oriented team player who is dedicated to getting the job done
  • Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills


COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:


KIPP DC offers an extremely competitive compensation and benefits package:


  • The anticipated starting salary for this position is $50,312-$57,765. At KIPP DC we strive for clarity, equity, and to be highly competitive. When determining salaries we look at benchmarks in the education and non-profit sector.
  • KIPP DC offers a robust benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurances; various voluntary benefits; and employer paid benefits such as short term disability, long term disability, life insurance, and a membership to One Medical.
  • Currently, individuals in this role have up to 15 paid time off days, up to 10 paid sick days, and 12 paid holidays. This is subject to change and your exact schedule will be shared in your offer letter.
  • As a headquarters team that is focused on being responsive to our schools and meeting the needs of our students and families, we approach our work in a way that reflects these priorities. This position will generally work independently and not regularly interface with students, families, or school teams. This position will primarily work from our headquarters office to maintain a connection to their colleagues and foster a sense of cross-functional collaboration. Because of the nature of this position’s work, this will allow for hybrid work. This role will have approximately 50% flexibility to work remotely.
  • KIPP DC also offers a 403(b) retirement account with a 3% employer contribution and a 3% match with vesting after three years.
