Job Duties

This role will provide exceptional Human Resources (HR) service to the university community in support of the university’s goals and vision. This position will serve as the SME in the area of benefits administration, personnel, and pay transactions. The specific area of knowledge would be benefits administration which would include health benefits, retirement, life insurance, disability programs, and family medical leave administration. This position is the lead for myVRS Navigator (VNAV) oversight and administration. Review and enter data to maintain data integrity within myVRS Navigator (VNAV), PMIS and Cardinal HCM. Track reconciliation between VNAV, PMIS and Cardinal HCM. In addition, create adhoc reports. This position is also responsible for providing guidance and consultation to the assigned university departments and managers by independently researching and interpreting policies, problem solving, consultation, critical thinking and processing benefits and transaction requests in a timely manner and meeting all scheduled deadlines and other duties as assigned. This position will prepare faculty renewal contracts so that the university can continue the employment of our faculty and faculty administrators. This is accomplished through maintaining spreadsheets, databases, and documentation on all faculty contracts processed and ensure appropriate filing or scanned into an electronic filing system. Coordinate with the applicable department the proper contract language and terms and track/archive all contracts. This position will plan and execute sponsored events so that employees receive information, awards, and recognition; to include the annual service awards, retirement recognition, and benefits fairs. The incumbent is expected to have considerable working knowledge of other functional areas of HR to include talent acquisition, classification, compensation, benefits, presentations, and HRIS. Skilled at building key relationships with internal and external customers.

Minimum Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, take initiative, handle multiple competing priorities, attention to detail while maintaining a big picture perspective. Document and maintain administrative procedures. Extensive practicing experience and knowledge of position, personnel and benefits transactions using the various HR systems (PMIS, BES, CIPPS, VNAV, Cardinal HCM) within policy and procedures and training others. Knowledge of Federal/State HR laws, policies and procedures. Using the body of knowledge of HR policies and procedures showing an ability to interpret and communicate effectively. Strong analytical skills and detailed oriented. The desire and willingness in taking the initiative to keep up with changing policies and legislation. Perform required weekly audits in PMIS, CIPPS, BES, VNAV and Cardinal HCM in an effort to maintain data integrity for benefit related tasks. Extensive knowledge of leave programs such as VSDP, Traditional Sick Leave Plan, Leave Share, etc. Considerable knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements, both adopted and pending, affecting employee benefits programs, including the ACA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, workers’ compensation, Medicare, and DOL requirements. Graduation from a college or University or the equivalent in related work experience with in personnel administration and some experience in related transactions and benefits administration. Ensure compliance with applicable government regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Considerable working knowledge of Ellucian Banner software and Cardinal HCM. SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, CBP and/or CEBS professional designations preferred. Experience working in a higher education is a plus.
