Overview:

This is a REMOTE position.

The Consultant - Retirement administers retirement programs, manages and leads major projects on a regional or ministry-wide basis. Consults with department leaders and HR managers to address Retirement issues and provide experienced Retirement and other specialized pay plan guidance, expert advice and exceptional service. Maintains confidentiality of personnel information and exhibits independent judgment and decision making. Performs all work in accordance with Mercy's mission, vision, values and service standards.
  • Serves as an internal Retirement contact for external auditors; assists with government filings and retirement plan tests and audits.
  • Coordinates and tracks plan amendments, including changes and additions due to acquisitions and separations. Organizes and catalogs official plan documents and amendments.
  • Assist with defined contribution Retirement plan administration; calculates Mercy's annual contribution match and service contributions; monitors and audits participant accounts to ensure data integrity.
  • Proactively promotes Mercy's Retirement programs; conducts analyses to identify potential issues and initiates corrective action; recommends process improvements; drafts Retirement policies and guidelines.
  • Manages benefit vendor relations and collaborates on retirement plan administration and regulatory compliance, as well as data maintenance and integrity.
  • Manages relations with financial institutions holding Mercy accounts and coordinates with the Finance department to track and reconcile benefit payments.
  • Trains, mentors and reviews the work of Retirement Analysts; oversees daily activities and manages workflow to ensure thorough and timely services.
  • May oversee temporary contract personnel or support staff.
  • Performs related duties as required
  • Leads Retirement related initiatives and special projects; assists with ad-hoc Retirement and HR projects as required.
  • Oversees multiple Retirement and deferred compensation plans including administration, collection and data integrity audits for recordkeeping and valuation statement preparation; designs, tests and produces retirement statements; produces, checks and certifies all out-going batch participant calculations and related correspondence.
  • Provides support to other Mercy departments such as Finance, Treasury, HR and Legal as required.

Qualifications:
  • Preferred Education & Experience:
    • An advanced degree in actuarial science or a related field.
    • Progress in the Actuarial Examination program.
    • Knowledge of various deferred compensation plans.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Must have strong organizational and interpersonal skills that allow this analyst to effective support Retirement and HR ministry-wide operations.
  • Must be able to work independently under general supervision.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and in a team environment.
  • Progress in the Actuarial Examination program.
  • Must be able to analyze data, interpret findings and recommend actions.
  • Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in actuarial science, business, finance, or related field; or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: Five years experience in actuarial or defined contribution fields including a thorough knowledge of Retirement law and administration with expert computer skills in Excel and Access as well as a working knowledge of Virtual Basic programming.
  • Other:
    • Solid technical and analytical ability using spreadsheet, database and ERP systems and software required.
    • Must be able to work independently under general supervision.
