Job Objective:
Goodwill Industries of Michiana recognizes that vulnerable populations experience significant disparities in adverse birth outcomes and seeks to address these disparities through implementing BASE Doula Program. Through this program, Community Doulas will be responsible for providing physical, emotional, and informational support to expectant families throughout pregnancy, birth, and the immediate postpartum period. Community Doulas will also be engaged in outreach, education, and resource support for Goodwills Community Health programs, including Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) and Diapers & More of Northern Indiana. This will involve participating in outreach activities intended to build awareness of Community Health programs and identifying and navigating resources to support Community Health program clients.
The job objective of the BASE Doula Program Coordinator is to provide assistance to the BASE Doula Program Manager in developing and implementing the BASE Doula Program, coordinating outreach and training activities, and providing administrative program support. In addition, the Program Coordinator may serve as a back-up doula and occasionally a primary doula for program clients.This position reports to the BASE Doula Program Manager who evaluates performance annually.
Essential Job Functions:
- Identifies and registersfor communityevents andensures appropriate outreachmaterials are available.
- Attends team meetings for collaboration, information, and training.
- Other duties as assigned by the Manager.
- Prepares presentations and create marketing materials for Community Health programs, in collaboration with Goodwill marketing team and Manager.
- Establishes and maintains positive professional relationships with local hospitals and referral partners.
- Advocates for social changes that promote health equity for populations that are experiencing disparities in maternal and child health.
- Serves as program contact during Managers extended absence.
- Develops systems to effectively organize, share, and maintain awareness of relevant community resources.
- Provides program development support by assisting the Manager withpreparation of educational materials, data collection forms, policies, and procedures, etc.
- Serves as back-up doula for Community Doula clients as needed.
- Participates in committees, coalitions, and other community engagement opportunities approved by Manager.
- Coordinates Community Doulas participation in outreach activities and events throughout GIM service area in consultation with the Manager.
- Assists Manager and Director with research, writing, reporting, and management of grants and contracts as requested.
- Knows and understands the Goodwill Mission: Strengthen communities by empowering individuals and families through education, training and job placement.
- Maintains confidentiality and adheres to HIPAA regulations.
- Remains up to date on childbirth support, birthing techniques, new parent education, and all other necessary supportive services relevant to the work of Doulas.
- Continually seeks and accepts opportunities for professional growth.
- Attends reflective supervision meetings with Manager.
- Provides administrative support for BASE Doula Program
- Participates in continuous quality improvement projects.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screen.
- Ability to travel to client homes, team offices, community centers, and other locations.
- Demonstrated ability to professionally promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Ability to work independently and ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, the Internet, and ability to learn other programs for documentation and data collection.
- Ability to work professionally within the systems that serve communities impacted by trauma, racism, discrimination, and health disparities.
- Must have reliable transportation, a current driver's license, and provide proof of insurance to travel to different job sites.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule beyond normal business hours.
Education and Experience:
- 2-3 years of experience working with community-based maternal-child, family-centered, early childhood learning, or other home-visiting programs.
- Associate degree required, bachelors degree preferred.
- Experience providing doula support to expectant families required.
- Training as a birth/postpartum doula from a certifying organization required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to kneel, bend, and stand or sit for long periods of time.
- Lift a minimum of 35 lbs.
- Ability to climb stairs.
