About the Opportunity
JOB SUMMARY
The Facilities Locksmith position is responsible for all electronic locks and hardware on the Boston & suburban campuses. The position will require working in a non-locksmith capacity when necessary.

Individuals may be required to work overtime and respond to emergency call-ins as required or directed to ensure proper plant operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Five years of experience with commercial and institutional locking systems required. An electrician’s license is desired but not required. High mechanical aptitude and ability to diagnose problems and make appropriate repairs. Experience with the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, electronic locking systems including Cbord and Onity systems. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and transport piping and equipment more than 200 lbs. with the assistance of others. Must be able to push and pull heavy loads as required; stoop and bend for long periods of time; work on hands and knees and other awkward positions for extended periods; routinely walk to and from various buildings carrying tools, equipment, and other essentials to the job site. Must be able to work alone and climb multiple sets of stairs, work off ladders, staging lifts, etc. Must have OSHA 10 safety certification. Must be able to work overtime as needed. Valid Driver’s License required.
This position is 40 hours a week. The Locksmith position is considered Essential Personnel. A satisfactory criminal background check is required for employment in this position. All University staff members must successfully complete a 90-day probationary period. Job description subject to change based upon the University needs and demands.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

1) Install and maintain locking systems on all campuses:
Review, prioritize, verify for completeness, and address all assigned work orders.
Perform Planned Maintenance on locking systems including battery changes on electronic locks.
Troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning electronic locking systems.
Cut keys, assemble, and configure lock cores.
Prioritize assigned work orders such as routine and emergency requests i.e., entrapments, safety, security, and residence halls.
Coordinate with the residence life staff for access to occupied residence halls.

2) Communications:
Daily communication, work planning, and coordination with Facilities Supervisors and Residence Life staff.
Coordinate with the Facilities Customer Service Office to advise on the status of all assigned lock related work orders.
Build relationships and ensure effective communications with stakeholders and clients throughout the university pertaining to the status of their submitted lock related requests.

3) Administration:
Review client lock and key requests and work orders.
Prepare estimates for clients’ requests pertaining to the installation of new locking systems.
Assist the Building Trades Supervisor in the maintenance and monitoring of the status of all lock shop related work orders.
Document all lock installations and key distributions.
Maintain the real time database where all lock key configurations are stored.
