Backend Engineer - Music

Spotify is looking for Backend Engineers to join our Music Expression organization; the newly built team focused on empowering artists and fans to form deeper connections via new ways to express themselves and their music.

Music Expression is a highly collaborative team that enjoys tackling big challenges; our most recent successes have included enabling 40,000 artists to share a special message during Spotify Wrapped to over 300 million viewers. Specifically, the Music Formats team is focused on growing and enriching the music catalog by developing new sets of video formats.

You’ll join our team of talented engineers that share a common interest in distributed backend systems, their scalability, and continued development. You will build the backend systems that power our application, scale highly distributed systems, and continuously improve our engineering practices.

What You'll Do

• Work in an environment that supports your individual growth by providing you with challenging tasks to tackle and the freedom to acquire new skills in hack time, reading groups, lectures, and a variety of internal training courses
• Architect, design, develop, deploy, and operate Java services that serve users in a DevOps manner
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, and insights teams to tackle exciting and challenging problems for delivering value to artists and fans
• Be a leader of the Spotify-wide backend developer community affecting and driving our architecture across the company
• Be a key contributor within the cross-functional team you work with and across Spotify in general

Who You Are

• Have at least 2+ years of professional experience working in a product-driven environment and experience building API-based platforms
• You care about quality and you know what it means to ship high-quality code
• A student and practitioner of software craft, able to apply systems thinking, domain-driven design, and agile principles in a complex space
• Passionate about delivering end-to-end experiences and care about your software architecture across the backend, front-end, and the APIs that glue them together
• Experienced in designing and building distributed, high-volume services in Java or similar languages
• Enjoys working collaboratively and is adaptable to early-life product development environments

The United States base range for this position is $100,706-$175,308, plus equity. The benefits available for this position include health insurance, six months of paid parental leave, 401(k) retirement plan, monthly meal allowance, 23 paid days off, 13 paid flexible holidays, paid sick leave. This range encompasses multiple levels. Leveling is determined during the interview process. Placement in a level depends on relevant work history and interview performance. These ranges may be modified in the future.
